The inauguration

"I Melody Margaret Grant," she repeated after the priest.

It was the middle of January but the day was colder than usual. The dry wind galloped through the air and mercilessly hit the naked and defenseless faces. Noses and cheeks were bright red, hands hiden under gloves, and everyone kept shifting on their places, trying to creat a non-existent warmth.

But Mellie was beaming as if her life depended on it. She couldn't hide her enthusiasm.

"Swear to protect, preserve and defense the Constitution of the United States." The tall man across her looked at Mellie expectantly, and so were the rest of the americans. Expectant.

"Swear to defend, protect and preserve the Constitution of the United States." She said.

Mellie took a deep breath that filled her lungs and reached her stomach. She smiled to the sky.

"So help you God."

The sun was shinning somewhere behind the clouds and it reminded Mellie of how her life had been. Shining through the clouds.

But right now, her clouds were dissipating, opaquing by her light.

Right now her sun was coming through and she was standing in front of millions of expectant eyes, shining in all her glory.

"So help me God," she repeated.

"Congratulations, Madam President."

That was the last thing she heard before a dry sound that smelled of death drove crazy the crowd.

And turned her light off
