A is for Alligator
(Roxy's POV)
"Hey, Rox, what did you always want to be when you grew up? I mean, when you were a little kid."
I looked up at the thin redhead who currently had his left arm draped over my shoulder, giving him a quizzical look. He did not look at me, but instead continued eating his sea salt ice cream as he started into the distance. The two of us were seated on the swing that resided on Axel's front porch.
I liked going to Axel's house.
"Where'd a question like that come from all of a sudden?" I asked, taking a small bite of my own ice cream.
He grinned down at me, making me blush slightly. That beautiful smile of his… It could just make me (and probably many, many women) melt.
"I dunno," he replied, with a shrug. "Just thinkin'."
I cocked an eyebrow, wondering what exactly was going on in his head. I decided to answer the question anyway. There was no harm in asking such an innocent question, right? I thought for a while. Back in grade school, what had I said I wanted to be? Then I remembered, and just the thought of it made my face turn a bright shade of red.
Axel must have noticed because he grinned once more and asked with a chuckle, "What is it?"
I contemplated replying with a simple, "nothing," but I knew that I would probably end up telling him anyway. It was hard to keep anything from Axel for long.
"Well," I began, Axel looking at me, eyes wide with interest, "I remember once, back in kindergarten, my teacher had asked everyone in my class what we wanted to be when we grew up."
Axel nodded as if he remembered something similar from his childhood.
"Everyone answered with something different, more or less. Some said ballerinas. Some said police men… Fire fighters, doctors, vets, artists. You name it. But I, being the strange kid that I was, didn't want to be any of those things. I was the last one to be called on.
'And what about you, Roxas?' my teacher head said with a sweet smile. I looked up at her innocently and replied with complete sincerity,
'An alligator.'
My teacher giggled at that and smiled down at me. Some of the kids in my class had laughed at me, but I didn't understand why, at the time. I figured I could really be an alligator, if I wanted to be." I paused, waiting for Axel to say something.
He chuckled mirthfully, giving me a squeeze. "That is… absolutely adorable," Axel said with a smile. I had actually expected him to make fun of me for something like that, but I guess he found it endearing. Then again, he may use this against me later.
… Damn.
"You think so?" I asked, my face still slightly red with embarrassment.
"Yes, I do." Axel lightly kissed my forehead, and I smiled softly. "Better finish your ice cream before it melts," he added with a smirk.
I looked at the blue ice cream on a stick in my hand. It had already begun to liquefy, so I hastily licked it, trying to stop the softening of my beloved sea salt treat. I guess some of it had gotten on my cheek, and Axel nonchalantly licked it off. Sort of an unnecessary thing to do, I thought, but I didn't mind. I love Axel, after all.
A/N: And there's the first one. Kind of silly, huh? That's what I was going for anyway. The next one will, hopefully, be up shortly. Let me know what you think. (:
