What's in a name?

Obi-wan Kenobi stared out a the beautiful sunset of the twin suns of Tatooine. This place was dry and dead. Every time he looked out at the sandy desolation he was reminded that sometimes nature could kill itself of without any help from humanoid species.

Even in this bleak desert, though, Obi-wan had managed to find some good. There was Luke. A cute little guy, and even if Owen made him stay away to protect Luke from following the path of his father, it was nice to have a purpose here besides hiding. Then there were the sunsets. One would think that on a world with no clouds they wouldn't be all that spectacular. But they were fantastic. The twin suns painted the sky with a majestic array of colors even while turning the sand to the color of burnished gold. It was the only time this place was beautiful.

And last- "Hey Ben. How's the sunset tonight?"

There was Kira Dorran. After Anakin turned he swore he would never take on another padawan, of course that left him wide open to being blindsided by the force. She had showed up on Tatooine two years ago barely outrunning five squads of stormtroopers, but the force had told him to help her, so he had. And with her had come his greatest frustrations... and his greatest companion. She was nothing like Anakin, but that didn't mean she didn't have her own quirks.

"My name is Obi-wan not Ben, why do you insist on calling me that?" the Jedi master asked.

Kira shrugged, "Two reasons. One I can't call you by your real name in town or it might get back to Vader that you're here, and if I call you master or Obi-wan here I'm more likely slip up than if I just call you Ben. And second, your name is really long. Ben is a nice combination of your two word name into one."

Obi-wan shook his head, "How can it be a combination of my two name's when neither Obi, nor Wan have an E in it? By your logic I should be called Bin, or Ban."

The padawan made a face, "Those aren't even real names. Bin is something you put stuff in and Ban is just another name for exile. I would think you wouldn't want that rubbed in."

The Jedi master sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. Sometimes he missed Anakin.
