There were some days he woke up and for some reason, no matter what seemed to go wrong, or explode, or die, he just couldn't squash the broad grin that constantly seemed to lurk behind flashing glasses and infuriating half-smirks. These were the days that he found more excuses to drape long arms over lean shoulders and press in close against sharp hips without reproach or even a backward glance of mild disavowment. It was as if his mood was contagious and others just left his meanings and oddity in the hazy obscurity of his cigarette smoke.

These sunshine and rainbow days (and God if anyone ever heard him even think that they'd say he'd finally cracked) never lasted long, but they were glorious and welcomed when they did. It wasn't that he felt free to be himself, because he knew what he was deep inside; there really was only one monster in their fairy tale after all. No, it wasn't his true nature that was showing on these days…it was his.

His infectious laughter and happiness and silver lining point of view. Maybe it was his hope for their future or his implicit trust in their being together, damn the world and all their preconceptions; he wasn't sure and he didn't care. He was just thankful for another miracle given freely by his summer shower soaked cat with flashing golden eyes and crooked smile; even if he was spiting indignant fury at the sky's sudden downpour.

He stifled a chuckle behind a well worn Mahjong book at the fierce glare Tokito gave him before settling in against his side and instantly dropping off into a soundless sleep, his defenses down and head dropping against his shoulder. Running his fingers through the damp hair he smiled.

He loved days like this.
