Because Of You

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk

A little girl sat on a couch in her living room zoning out on her yelling father. Her father was mad that she had ran out into the street to get a ball. The girl, Elizabeth, had suffered this almost everyday of her life. She was six years old and at the time she just wanted to run away. But she couldn't. When her father reached for her arm she knew what was going to happen. Instead of begging him to not break it she got up and ran for the door. She ran to her aunt's house not knowing if she was home or not.

Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt

Fast forward two years and Liz was sitting back on that same couch but without her abusive father yelling at her. She was helping the authorities find him. Ari Haswari was not the best father in the world in fact he was probably the worst. She reenacted that same day two years ago that had been burned her head. Her Aunt Kate had regained custody of her now that she wasn't traveling the states because of her job in the US Secret Service.

Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me

Elizabeth Todd had trust issues and she wasn't afraid to admit it. Her mother had disappeared when she was not even a year old, her abusive father was not and had never been who he said he was and she in and out of protective custody of the FBI and NCIS. She didn't know who she could trust and who she couldn't so it was easier to not trust anyone at all.

Because of you
I am afraid

Now twelve years old Elizabeth sat at her own desk at NCIS and tried to find the killer of her aunt. She knew who it was but she didn't tell anyone. It was her father Ari. How did she know this? She knew this only because she had been right behind him when he shot and the bullet hole. Right in the forehead. That was his signature shot and he was after her and she knew that.

BECAUSE OF YOU
I TRY MY HARDEST TO FORGET EVERYTHING
