Don't worry. You're human – your memory is no more than a sieve. Time heals all wounds for your kind.

That was all very well, I thought, but what about the meantime? After all I'd done for him – I'd loved him, trusted him, given up the prospect of a normal life for him, and this was how he chose to end it?

Stupid bastard. Men. Ugh.

The billowing clouds of despair were tapping at the doors of my mind, threatening to overtake me. But I was too freaking angry to let it take me over.

He'd left without a trace. I had no way to pay him back for his shitty behavior.

Not sure what else to do, I called Jessica.

"Oh, hey, Bella," she said, "I haven't talked to you in a while. What's up?"

"Stupid bastard fucking left me," I screamed into the phone dramatically.

"I'll be right over," she said, barely making an effort to disguise the excitement in her voice.

Jessica soon arrived, not only with ice-cream and chocolate, but with Angela and Lauren. Angela was super sympathetic, although Lauren only seemed to be there to witness the gossip firsthand. Whatever, I didn't even care.

We all piled onto my bed, and I ate Jessica's icecream straight from the container as I recounted the story.

"And then he just left," I said finally, my spoon regretfully hitting the plastic at the bottom of the container. I grabbed some chocolate and got started on that instead.

"Did he say why?" asked Jessica.

"He thought it would be best for me," I said, hoping it would be convincing enough for them without them knowing the whole Edward-wanting-to-drink-me part.

"Oh honey, that must suck," said Angela squeezing my shoulder, "You just have to forget about him. Move on. He doesn't deserve you."

Jessica was nodding fervently, but Lauren was smirking.

"What?" I asked.

"So you're just going to let him get away with this?" she asked, "No fight, no nothing?"

"There's nothing I can do," I said, sucking the coating off a Malteser.

"Oh my God. Stop being so helpless," said Lauren, "Tell me you wouldn't enjoy getting revenge on him."

"Of course I would, but were you even listening? He's probably out of the country by now."

"So? You've forgotten who you're talking to, Bella. I'm the girl who got Kaylie Kelson to drop out after she flirted with my boyfriend. I made Don Whiteworth move to a whole other town just because he sneezed on my burrito. Trust me. We can do this."

And the idea of sweet revenge started to warm me up, pushing those clouds of despair into oblivion. Revenge was exactly what I needed.

Angela was looking nervous. Jessica looked excited. And I felt, for the first time today, that things were finally going my way.

"Let's do it," I said.
