"He said no."

Angela looked up from the computer in her hands to see her best friend standing in the door way of her office. She looked miserable.

"Oh sweetie." She said, knowing this was about Booth and the proposal. "What happened?"

Brennan came into the room and sat down. "I'm not sure, he said that he likes things how they are, and that we shouldn't rush into anything. That the only reason I asked was because I was scared." She shook her head. "But he was hiding something." She said looking at Angela. "I know, better than I know myself, there's something he's not telling me."

Angela frowned. "Well why don't you ask him about it?" she asked.

Brennan didn't know why, not really. All she knew was that she was heartbroken and confused and something was wrong. "There has to be a reason, or he would tell me." She said. "I can't ask him, he'll tell me when he can." She said.

It might not make a lot of sense, but Brennan knew that if Booth was keeping something from her, he had a good reason, and he would tell her when the time was right. She trusted him.

Angela knew that her friend was hurt, but she also knew that when it came to Brennan and Booth, they never did anything without the best interest of the other in mind. So whatever his reason for not telling Brennan what was really going on; had to be a good one.
