The fire crackled in front of him. Its warm yellow flames entrancing him
with their dance, pulling him into its core so that he felt it too. He felt
the heat and goodness gushing through his veins, so that he filled up and
overflowed with a sweet sense of family and comfort. He had always longed
for these special pieces missing in his life, but now he finally had them.
He turns his eyes away from the flames chuckling merrily to themselves and
onto Sirius. His godfather had not changed after a year, his smile was
still as welcoming and eyes still as warm. With a sigh of satisfaction and
contentment in his heart Harry knew that he finally belonged, that he was
finally home.
Sirius got out of his chair to fetch them hot chocolate, as they both enjoyed to sit in the evenings in each other's company sipping mugfulls of their favorite drink. Tonight, however, something disturbed the stillness of the air and the conversing fire, causing it to stumble in its track. A knock at the door, insistent and rattling demanded to be answered. Only Harry was left to respond to the call. The moment he opened the door, all pleasurable memories of that evening instantly vanished and were replaced with a chilling sense of loneliness and complete emptiness.
Every smile that ever-crossed Harry's face and every happy memory were instantly sucked out of him by the figure that stood in the doorway. The hairs on his back stood on end and his many whirling thoughts were trapped in his numb state without a possibility of ever being carried out.
He stood frozen on the spot feeling the warmth and with it the energy draining from him. Only one creature in the whole of the wizarding world could do that. Bloodcurdling evil hooded beings that had no heart or life of their own and existed by tormenting and emptying others of their joy.
The realization hit him with a full force. It impaired his already weak body so that his legs could not up hold him any longer. With a fading vision Harry summoned his last strength to form one thought that erupted over and over in his mind. " Sirius, get away!"
