When the sun was tired, she retreated into the night,
Because the sun must set with the light,
And shadows shall rule with blight.
His world is dark so dark, dark, dark, and hers is burning with love and passion and happiness, but he is outside of the light, and he will never be invited in again. She worked long and hard to dispel the shadow he cast on her bright world, but the dark will always come after the sun, and perpetual brightness does not exist.
She thinks that maybe she is grateful for that, because it is so hard to be light and loving and passionate and happy. Even the sun sets. He teaches her daily lessons in pain, and hate, and revenge, and bruises, agony, death. Underneath her pale skin, she is a tangled mass of bruises not even Byakugan can see, because all hits leave a mark, and no protection could save her from the ones he deals out. And for all her talk, she thinks maybe that there is no fairy tale endings, even with him back, and alive, and recovering, because the sun sets always.
He does not recover, because no medication or chakra will ever erase the damage of blood stained hands can't you see it? from his mind. And he retreats from the world of light, of civilians, and ramen, and pink, and hope. When night falls, he leave the always dark compound, and prowls the town he may have once known. He avoids the streetlamps, and light from windows where normal, happy people live their lives in blissful ignorance of the cold heartless shadows outside, to blend in with the shadows. He has always lived in the shadows, so why should walking with them make a difference? But it does, and she sees this, but she cannot bring herself to extend a light to guide him though she promised she always would.
So they live their lives, he in the dark so dark, and in the light, burning light, and she thinks it can still be fixed, but he will never come to the light, which is why she finds him always in the shadows one night.
They disappear into more shadows, her fitting so seamlessly. And when morning comes, she will fix her clothing, and smile, and laugh, and he will sulk, and shrink away, and they will both wait until night
Because the sun must set.
When darkness turns to light,
It ends for the night.
