REBOOT

A Justice League/Power Rangers fanfic

Cyborg felt betrayed.

Okay, it was more than that. He felt violated, dehumanized, appalled. And it was all because of the actions of one of his closest friends.

Batman.

When they'd been fighting Brainiac and Lord Zedd a week ago with help from the Power Rangers, Brainiac had taken over his body. The only way that they could've freed Cyborg was to 'reboot' his operating systems, which worked. Unfortunately, it also created a tension between the two allies, to the point that it got in the way of their teamwork. So they'd decided to talk about it and put their cards on the table.

"How could you keep this from me?" asked Cyborg. He was standing in a meeting room with the Caped Crusader. Batman stood apart from him on the other side of the table, his trademark glare holding up against the argument they were having.

"It wasn't important at the time," said Batman.

Victor's brows furrowed in anger. "Wasn't important? You knew how to reboot me like a computer-"

"-which you are," finished Batman. "Knowing that saved your life when Brainiac possessed you."

"Except this isn't a game, Batman," said Cyborg. He sat down in a chair and returned to the topic. "You know how to manipulate my operating systems for whatever you want. That's how I function -that's how I live!"

Batman was still stone-faced. "Victor, the information I have on you is top-secret. As far as I know, I'm one of the only few to know about the inner workings of what you are."

That didn't convince him at all. "Oh, so this is supposed to reassure me? You've been my friend for all these years and didn't tell me!"

"I had to make sure I understood you!"

"To make sure I'm not a threat, you mean?"

"It's not like that," replied Batman.

"So what? Is it the same for what you've got cooking for Superman? Or Wonder Woman?"

Batman's eyed enlarged and his mouth dropped in temporary shock. Internally, Cyborg was proud of himself; he'd just proven his theory about the dark knight right.

"In case you didn't notice, I'm able to hack into anything," Cyborg said. "I got curious about your bat-computer and found something called the Babel Protocols, I believe. What I really cared about was that these files – they were ways to beat up the League. And I'm guessing that sooner or later, you'd add me there.

"That's an invasion of privacy," Batman breathed.

"Says the guy who can manipulate my body like a swiss army knife if he wanted to," shot back Cyborg. "In the words of a random internet quote, 'trust doesn't come with a refill. Once it's gone, you probably won't get it back, and if you do, it will never be the same. And that's a fact."

Cyborg stood up from the table. "I don't plan on 'breaching' your privacy again anytime soon. And I'll help out on League missions when they come, but for right now? We're not friends. We're partners for a group. Until you can prove to me that you're better than this, I…I don't want to talk."

"Victor…"

"Later." Cyborg instantly vanished in a flash of bright, blue light. Batman was left standing there, the trust he had once had now shaken to its core.

I was reading my copy of "Justice League/Power Rangers" the other day, and the scene where Batman rebooted Cyborg seemed to have big implications for me. I just felt It was something worth exploring. Don't get me wrong, I love Batman and think he has good intentions, but I also thought it was worth writing the consequences of Cyborg knowing Batman could do something like this to him. Always, hope you all liked it! Please review, favorite, or share opinions!
