Her mother reassures her the scar will fade. Her grandmother offers remedies which are supposed to make the healing process quicker. Mulan drinks the tea and pours the supposedly healing mixtures into her bathwater.
Her father is the only honest one. Her scar is going to fade. Forcing the healing process can potentially worsen things.
Mulan pours the tea out. Mushu gets her healing baths.
"Don't be scared," he says. "No matter what scar you have, pretty boy is going to keep loving you."
A pretty boy's love does not keep her nightmares away. Learning to pretend as well as her father is the only option.
