Jack placed the blow torch down and lifted his welder's mask to look down at the unfinished product in front of him. It was half way completed, and he wished he could keep working on his new invention, but a side way glance at the clock in the corner of the lab told him it was after midnight. He might as well pack it up and get an early start in the morning, but first, he decided to reward himself with a midnight snack for his hard work. Leaving the lab, he made his way to the kitchen and rummaged through the refrigerator for anything fudge related. The only thing that pulled his attention away from his search for food was the sound of the front door opening.
"Danny, is that you?" He called out.
"Yup." Danny replied as he walked into the kitchen. He was dressed very nicely, and Jack remembered him mentioning taking Sam to a nice restaurant earlier in the day.
"You didn't stay over at Sam's apartment?" Jack asked.
"No, I actually have news that I wanted to share with you and Mom." Danny started, his face beaming with delight. "I proposed to Sam tonight. We're engaged!" He blurted out, an ecstatic and goofy smile clad on his face. Jack pulled him into a bone crushing hug that Danny still winced at.
"I'm so happy for you, son. We always knew Sam would become a Fenton." He said. Danny sat down at the kitchen table and Jack followed pursuit.
"I was so nervous. I mean, I knew she would say yes, but it's nerve wrecking." Danny said with a slight chuckle. He started to reminisce on the memory, even though it only happened a few hours ago. He chose to bring her to their spot after dinner; the tree on the hilltop where they watched his ceremony after the Disasteroid incident. After he told her how much he loved her, he got down on one knee, pulled the ring out, and told her that he wanted to fight ghosts with her for the rest of their lives, which got her to chuckle through tears of happiness. It was one of the happiest moments of his life.
"Been there, done that, Danny-boy." Jack said, getting a lopsided grin from Danny. "I can't believe my boy is finally getting married."
"Me either." Danny said with a slight chuckle, running a hand through his hair. "Were you nervous when you proposed to Mom?" He asked out of curiosity.
"Of course I was, but I was determined." Jack started. "I told her I loved her, said I wasn't nuts, then asked her... 'Will you fight ghosts by my side with me forever?'" Danny's eyes widened and he suddenly had flashbacks of wearing Jack's over sized orange jumpsuit to school nine years ago when he was fourteen. Well, what could he say?
Like father, like son.
I got this idea last night and had to do it. Jack and Danny need more bonding moments. I hope you guys enjoyed it, so please review :D
