NOT IN THIS LIFETIME

This scene never happens but that's what fan fiction is for right :)

Have fun…

Their eyes met for a brief second.

She gave everything away.

He had learnt to hide it well.

He couldn't do this now.

There were oaths to be kept and lives to be destroyed.

He looked to the sky.

Her eyes followed his.

A flaming, majestic creature descended. He knew all to well what was going down between the two down there.

The creature looked at her and then at him. He let out a low roar.

He put his sword back in the scabbard. At least there were some traces left of the man he used to be. He could never harm her. He shook his head. Not her, never her.

The dragon looked at him. If not then don't leave her hanging.

He smiled mocking himself. How cruel could the day get? Stay here, there's one last thing I need to do.

He walked towards her.

She held her breath. Ready to strike him down if necessary. In her heart she knew she would strike but never kill. Not him, never him.

He raised his hands in the air.

She tightened the grip on the weapon.

Their eyes met again.

A silent tear slid down her face.

He came closer.

She swung the sword. "Don't get any closer. I will hurt you"

He smiled again. "It's not like I don't deserve it"

This was getting harder by the minute. Why couldn't he just go away? She couldn't break down in front of him. No she couldn't let him see she was weak.

He came even closer.

The dragon watched. This was going to take a lot longer then he had thought. The shut his eyes and listened to the two.

"Why?" she asked. The one word that he had dreaded the most was now out in the open.

He gulped. This was not an easy answer.

She dropped the sword onto the pile of leaves below and took at step towards him.

They were standing just a few inches apart now.

He took the final step and put his hand around her waist and pulled her in.

She tried to resist but the feeling was too overwhelming.

She put her hands around him.

They stayed in the cold embrace for a long time. It seemed that time had slowed down.

Neither one said a word. They didn't need to.

She took a deep breath. The last time she would get to smell his sweet scent and pushed him away. "Don't do this to me" she whispered.

He came forward yet again and kissed her. They stayed like that for a while.

Then both moved back.

That was not a smart idea.

"I love you" He said.

"I loved you too" She said back.

The four words struck him down. A tingling feeling crossed his body and he could swear his heart broke into a million pieces. She was all that was left tying him down to the last strands of humanity.

They stood hand in hand one last time.

"Murtagh" She couldn't hide it anymore. He was hurting her.

"Nasuada" A certain fear had crept down into his voice.

And then they turned away.

A strong breeze blew. It seemed that nature itself knew they were meant to be. The wind wailed for their broken hearts.

Maybe in another lifetime. They both thought.
