"Well, then, if ye don't care about her, then why don't we get rid of the extra weight?" said Captain Barbossa. Jack remained motionless, doing his best to keep his face expressionless.

She was still unconscious from the rather nasty blow to the back of the head. One of the crew stepped forward, carrying Lex, and dumped her over the edge of the ship. Jack winced as he heard the splash of her body hitting the water. They all turned to see his reaction, and he grimaced. But he clambered up onto the edge and dove in after her.

Lex was floating downward, close to the seafloor. He swam down and grabbed her, before returning to the surface. He swam toward the island, despising the minute thing, this being the third time he had been stranded there. He carried her bridal-style onto land, and lay her down on the sand.

Jack noticed Lex's body convulsing in shivers, and felt an unwanted pang of worry. He knelt down next to her and took of his jacket and put it on her. He sat cross-legged next to her and pulled her into his lap, wrapping his arms around her in hopes to help her warm up.

He heard the jeers from the boat and felt a surge of anger. He had half a mind to swim back to the boat - after all, it was close enough to shore. He made as though to get up, but fell motionless as he heard Lex groan.

"Jack," she said feebly.

"It's all right," he said gently, brushing her hair out of her face. She shook her head sharply. Her eyes weren't even open, and Jack wondered if she was talking in her sleep.

"I need... to tell you... I'm pregnant..." Jack stared at her, wide-eyed. He hoped she would say more, but she seemed to have slipped back into unconsciousness. He slid a hand down to the swell of her stomach, and left it there for a moment. He felt a soft kick, and bit back a groan.

This couldn't happen, this wasn't going to work. You couldn't birth or raise a child on a ship, but he couldn't leave her on land - not to go back and be forced into marriage. But he also knew that they couldn't stay on this bloody island for very long.

He got up and picked Lex up, then carried her to the shade of the palms. Even though she was still a little cold, leaving her out in the heat would be much worse. He then found the trap door to the rum cellar, and prayed that Elizabeth hadn't found the second door. When he opened it, he grinned thankfully. He opened one and took a long swig, before gathering up bottles and setting to work.

It was a couple hours before a ship noticed the fire. It was also at that time that Lex started to become conscious. Jack squinted in the sun to try and see the name on the ship.

"Bugger," Jack muttered as he saw that the ship belonged to the East India Trading Company . But he knew that this was the best for Lex, and he headed over to her.

"Jack? What - where are we?" she said, sitting up and putting a hand on the back of her head. She looked around and saw the huge fire, then saw the ship lowering a small wooden boat into the water. "What's going on!?"

"I made that fire so someone could rescue you," said Jack simply.

"But Jack - that's an East India boat!"

"It doesn't matter. You can't stay here - you're with child."

"How-?"

"You talk in your sleep." He took Lex's hand and helped her up.

"Jack, why did you do this? They'll hang you..." Lex said quietly, laying her head against his shoulder.
