Disclaimer: I don't own Legend of Zelda.

Link sat on the shore of Lake Hylia, simply thinking. That's all he ever did now that he had saved Hyrule from Ganondorf. Zelda was back in power, the Gerudos were peaceful, and even the Gorons, Zoras, and Kokiri were enjoying pleasant times. Although the Deku Tree was dead, the Kokiri were busy tending to their new sprout. But Link hadn't seen it in years; yet, he knew it was there.

After being thrown back and forth between his present and future selves in order to save his world, he had returned to his ten year old form and time. Except, he returned with much more knowledge, so he saw no reason to continue to live with the Kokiri. Yes, he still had his home there, but he spent most of his time at the palace with Zelda now. They had grown up together all over again in a manner of speaking. And whereas she was soon to become queen, he had nothing to look forward to. It was as if his life had lost all meaning; and really, it had. He had stopped looking for the next thing to come after his routine schedule of Navi screaming 'Go, go, GO!' in his ear every five minutes had come to an abrupt halt. After Hyrule was safe, there was nothing left to do. He had even enjoyed the peace and quiet and relaxation for a while. But, reality had set in quick enough. And after seven years of boredom, he was sick of it.

"Not out saving the world still?" a familiar voice asked.

Link jumped to his feet and whirled around, instinctively drawing his sword and holding the point to the stranger's throat. He instantly frowned upon realizing he had come face to face with his evil twin, Dark Link…or Dark as Link often referred to him as.

"Surprised to see me?" Dark asked.

"What do you want?" Link growled, not moving the sword, which remained steady due to his well trained arm and muscles.

Dark shrugged. "You always assume I'm up to something." As he spoke, he dissolved into a darker shadow form and walked through the sword so he was close enough to grab the other boy's hat off his head.

Link snatched at his hat, slipping his sword back into its sheath with one hand. "Because you are!"

"Hey, count your blessings, pumpkin, at least I'm not trying to kill you," Dark pointed out, gripping the point of the hat and swinging it back and forth.

"Are you calling me fat?"

"Ha! Maybe," Dark said slyly, poking his alter self in the stomach. "You have put on a few pounds since ridding this place of evil."

"I still have you," Link growled.

"Oh, I don't know about that. We could be friends. After all, aren't you bored after not seeing me for more than seven years? I know I've missed you." It sounded like sarcasm, but Link could still tell that he was telling the truth.

"Uh huh…why should I trust you?" Link huffed.

Dark smirked mischievously and dangled the green hat in front of his nose. "Because. I've got your hat, blondie."

And with that, he took off up the slope with the hat. Link raced after him. Friend or not, Dark had his hat and he was going to get it back one way or another. And if they ended up friends, well, that would give him something to do for once.
