Just a short poetic story about what Jacob saw when Bella jumped off the cliff in new moon.

Jacob's POV

I watched as she plummeted towards the raging, black water beneath the cliffs.

Her piercing screams filled the air.

There was a splash... then silence.

I didn't hear her resurface.

I didn't hear her struggles.

I didn't hear her gasping for air as she fought for her life.

It was silent.

A tear slid down my cheek and I ran over to the precipice.

Nothing.

There was no movement beneath the waves.

I let out a wail then fell to my knees.

I watched as bubbles formed and broke at the surface.

She had been holding her breath.

There was still a chance.

It didn't really matter how slim the chance was, I was going to take it.

I plunged into the water in one swift movement.

Cleanly slicing through it.

I saw her body moving limp and lifeless through the water.

Was she gone?

I guess it doesn't matter.

I swam down and grabbed her soft supple body.

There was a beat.

But it was still only faint.

I made my way through the strong currents.

She gasped as both of our heads broke the surface.

We were slammed into the sides of the cliffs by the waves.

I felt the air being knocked out of me as it happened.

I continued swimming.

Then I pulled her onto the beach.

Her hair was splayed wildly.

Sticking to her face and the sand that covered the beach.

She spluttered as she coughed up the salt water.

I hadn't thought of that.

How much salt water had found its way into her lungs.

My vision was becoming blurry from my tears.

I struggled to keep my breathing even as I looked over the body that was laying white and unmoving on the sand.

Bella.

I choked on my tears and sobs because of the look of her.

I didn't even know the internal damages.

She wasn't moving.

But I saw her ribs move as she breathed.

She was alive.

She stuttered and I heard her heart as it bet erratically.

" Breathe."

My voice broke as I ordered her.

She opened her mouth and I saw the waterfall of water fall out.

But she still didn't take a breath.

" Breathe, Bella! C'mon!" My voice was begging.

I began CPR.

My fist slamming down on her chest.

More of the water began to leave her system.

" Bella?" I asked. " Can you hear me?"

She moved her head and groaned quietly.

It wouldn't have been head by a human.

I heard foot steps behind me and turned around.

Sam was running my way.

" How long has she been unconscious?" His voice was calm as he tried to take in the situation.

I heard her heart beginning to falter.

No good. Not good.

" I don't know?"

My voice shaky.

Why Bella?

Why the people I loved?

My mum had died and now Bella.

Cruel.

Life works in strange ways.

Not always the turn of events that you are expecting.

" A few minutes. It didn't take long to tow her to the beach."

I recognised my voice.

My love dying in my arms.

The irony of the situation.

" She's breathing. She'll come around. We should get her out of the cold, though. I don't like the colour she's turning...."

" You think it's okay to move her?"

Sam's black eyes looked up to me.

" She didn't hurt her back or anything when she fell?"

" I don't know." My voice was rushed. I just wanted her to open her eyes.

She opened her eyes and I slowly gazed into her large brown eyes.

She was alive.
