I rolled over onto my side and tried to comfortable again. Something had awoken me up, but I couldn't remember what. It was like trying to grasp water or hold onto a fast fleeing dream at the edge of consciousness and sleep; it somehow always managed to slip away.

Then I heard it.

Gabe groaned and tossed onto his other side, tangling himself in his sheets. He whimpered and panted wildly as if something was chasing him.

I frowned and slid out of bed, rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I stumbled over to him in the darkness. My foot met something soft and squishy. I looked down and reached to pick up Señor Guapo. He must have been discarded during my friend's fit. I tucked the sock monkey into the crook of my elbow and knelt by Gabe's bedside.

"Gabe," I whispered. "Wake up."

All I got in response was a whine and he turned away from me.

I sighed and repeated what I had said only a little louder this time.

He rolled back over and his eyes shot open in alarm when he saw we were almost nose to nose. "Ian? What are you doing?"

"You were having a nightmare," I stated, pushing the plush monkey into his shaking hands. "What happened?"

"Oh…nothing. It's not important." He fiddled with one of Señor Guapo's arms. "Just…promise you'll try to control your impulses around other people."

I frowned and blinked. "Um. Ok. Why?"

"Because. You're mine," he growled.

I kissed him softly. "Don't worry; it was a dream, Gabe."

He nodded slightly, frowning when I rose to my feet. "Where are you going?"

"Back to bed. It's nearly two in the morning and we have a chemistry test tomorrow," I said.

"What's the difference in beds?"

I chuckled and slipped under the covers to lie beside him. He curled close and laid his head on my chest. "There's no difference," I said, rubbing his back as he closed his eyes. "Only you. And that's what matters."
