Author's Note: Just a quick one-shot
Aria pulls open the door to The Brew and walks up to the counter. She's just come from the loft above the small coffee/book shop, but for appearances sake decided to use the front door instead of the back staircase. Though she and Ezra have been spending… quite a bit of time together… she still prefers to keep her personal life as personal as possible.
She's relieved when she sees that there's a teenager behind the register, someone she's never seen before.
"Hi, what can I get for you?"
"I'll take two scones, a tall black coffee, and a tall iced soy latte, two Splenda. To Go," Aria says, giving the girl a small smile.
"That'll be twelve dollars and nineteen cents."
Aria reaches into her back pocket for her credit card. When she hands it to the girl at the register, she sees Sabrina come through the door that leads to the kitchen. Aria silently groans, suddenly very aware of the state of her hair. She almost got away without running into anyone.
"Aria," she says, dragging out her name sweetly. "Ezra didn't mention you were in town…" Sabrina notably takes in the mustard colored Hollis t-shirt is both very obviously too large for Aria's small frame, and also a garment that is recognizable as belonging to her boss. The small hole that has formed at the seam of the right shoulder makes sure to give that secret away.
She gives Aria a little look that clearly says, "I know when you two are up to no good," and Aria can feel her face start to flush. "If you promise to keep it upstairs this time, I promise I won't let it slip to your mom that you're in town."
Aria laughs, grateful for the offer of being discrete. "I think we can manage that," she says.
Images of the look on Sabrina's face when she walked into Ezra's office to find Aria positioned on the desk, both legs wrapped around Ezra's waist suddenly come rushing back to her in a hurry. It does nothing to ease the blush that has now completely overtaken her face.
The girl at the counter awkwardly clears her throat. She has two cups settled into a tray and a bag of scones ready to go. It's obvious that she's picked up on what's going on. She reaches her hand out to Aria, passing her credit card back. "It sounds like maybe I shouldn't have charged you," she says meekly. "You're the girlfriend?"
"Oh no," Aria says, taking her credit card back, eager to end this horribly awkward encounter. "I definitely deserve to pay after last time." She doesn't bother correcting the girl by stating that she's also not Ezra's girlfriend. Technically.
When the air around them is still heavy with comical unease, the girl looks between Aria and Sabrina. "She's right," Sabrina says simply. She occupies herself with replenishing a muffin display, not making eye contact with either of them. "They ruined a whole batch of scones while they were off being… distracted."
The poor girl looks like she's learned far more than she ever cared to know about her boss' personal life. Aria takes that as her cue to leave. Giving Sabrina a slight wave, she takes her breakfast and heads toward the front door.
"You might as well use the stairs," Sabrina calls after her, teasing.
Aria turns, using her back to open the door, and shoots her a disapproving look.
When she comes through the door to Ezra's loft, she walks over to where he's seated on the couch and tosses the bag down on the coffee table in front of him, her slightly miffed demeanor doesn't go unnoticed.
"Is she ever going to forgive us for burning those scones?"
Ezra starts to laugh as he opens the small bag in front of him.
