Ignorance is bliss. This simple statement didn't make sense to Heidi. Why would anyone not want to know their surroundings? Of course, this statement was spoken by mere mortals; the dreadfully oblivious.
Demetri always referred to Volterra's inhabitants as simple-minded, but Heidi just thought of them as fools. It was extraordinarily obvious that creatures like Heidi were almost alien, but humans tend to overlook that fact.
Every so often, as Heidi walks the crowded streets to round up dinner for her brothers and sisters, she will hear a person whisper, "Stunning," or some other synonymous word to convey her beauty to another. Heidi would always laugh loudly as a single thought rushes across her mind; drop-dead gorgeous. And literally, she was.
Humans were characteristically attracted to others by infatuation. Rarely did a relationship base purely off of so called, 'true-love.' This was partly the same for vampires. Of course, the eternal dead were less shallow than the warm-blooded, but that didn't stop the desire to show off their magnificent mate to the rest of their kind. But this was good in the vampire's world. A beautiful, obedient slave could encourage others to submit to another, which was useful to the nomads of the southern hemisphere. But this was horrible for the humans whose fate decided to cross with a vampire like Heidi.
The only reason Heidi had to walk the street was for nourishment. It was easy to attract followers, most of which only feigned interest in the historic city. The men's body tended to speak for their mind as they were herded into the Volturi's secluded feasting chamber. There, the mortals were unable to escape; their final moments were spent in a beautiful room where they couldn't run, and their screams couldn't be heard.
That seemed to be the main role of Heidi. Her power was seemingly never used, so her beauty earned her a spot in the family. The overwhelming sense of power was glorious to her. Heidi was not only the fisherman, but also the bait. Her orders sent her to the farthest, darkest reaches of Volterra, but she never failed. As long as she was the chief provider, her family would always be fed.
A/N: Here's another short drabble that I was inspired to write because of stupid infatuated boys at my school. Please tell me what you think about this. Should I just write in Heidi's PoV or should I continue with the third person view? Tell me in a review!
Thanks for reading!
