Chapter One: Brief Introduction to History
The TARDIS materialized on Earth. The First Doctor raised his eyebrows at his granddaughter.
"Something important today?" he asked. He leaned over the controls and squinted his eyes. "TARDIS won't give me a reading. What day is it?"
"Grandmother's birthday," Susan said. "TARDIS won't show you the date."
"We're on Earth, Susan. I can still tell that from the readings. Why stop on an Earth birthday? There are many other planets I could have taken her for her birthday."
"It's a special birthday, grandfather. You'll remember one day when you meet grandmother."
"Be careful, Susan. She may not recognize you."
"Don't worry, grandfather. She knows I'm coming."
A headache struck him as Susan opened the door. He could not see the flats of London outside. The TARDIS's soft voice calmed him as he went to lie down in his room.
