What does it really mean, anyway? What do I need to do to get it right? It all seems beyond me. Unreal. Impossible. More than fighting in Iraq. More than putting killers behind bars. More than solving crimes; more than any of what I do. No. It's less than that. It's so much more. More difficult. More complex. Nothing that can be taught. Nothing that can be learned; but oh so important. Especially now, as I watch her sitting there, bruised and broken, and I can't seem to figure it out. I don't know how… how to save a life.
