I Drove All Night
The city was crawling with them. Everywhere I turned the lights flashed, blinding me. I rushed towards my car and took off. I started back to the hotel when I stopped suddenly. That's not where I wanted to go. I didn't want to spend more time locked away in a room alone. Without much thought I took a hard left and drove manically through the streets of Hiroshima. I wasn't thinking of where I was going I just started to drive further and further away. Away from the people, away from the work, away from the next game of Sevens. I imagined what I would tell Shin when I showed up. Something like 'all I could think of was you, welcoming me into your arms and telling me anything I want to hear. Just the thought of you caused me to turn around and head back to Tokyo.'

I unlocked the door to Nobu's apartment using the copy key I had made for myself. It was after 10 in the morning but I was quiet anyway in case someone else was there. I snuck into the small living room and looked down at the sleeping figure on the couch. I had rushed all the way to Tokyo for him. Shin, my little Shin. I watched him sleep for a few minutes. Watched the way his chest rose and fell steadily, observed how his faced looked with his mouth hanging slightly open. Finally I woke him. He jumped, startled to see me. "What are you doing here?" he asked bewildered, starting at me as if I was a leftover illusion from a dream. "I drove all night to see you while I'm on tour and that's all you have to say to me?" I asked jokingly. All traces of a smile were wiped from Shin's face and worry overcame me. "Is that alright? Is someone else here?" I glanced around. It didn't look like anyone was there "It's fine. Nobu left for work awhile ago so we're alone." While Shin talked I went into the kitchen and found a post-it note on the counter confirming his words. 'Shin, gone to work. Don't forget to lock up if you go out. We have rehearsal today 7. Don't be lateNobu' I walked into Nobu's room and Shin followed. I shut the door and played out the fantasies that had haunted me through the long nights drive.
