This is just a short little piece on what i think should have happened somewhere in this latest episode. Slight spoilers if you havnt watched it. My first NCIS LA fic so let me know how I did. I hope they seem in charecter.
Kensi sifted through the papers on her desk not really paying attention to any of them. Her mind was far away in a different place. She couldn't get the image of him lying in the hospital bed out of her head. She couldn't help but think that it… no she needed to stop herself from thinking that. She was probably the only one who saw it that way. Of course Deeks would never in a million years think it. He was sweet even if she didn't want to admit it.
"Go home." Hetty's voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Huh?" Kensi looked up from the stack of papers to Hetty who was looking at her curiously.
"Get some rest. We haven't had a case in a week and we both know that you're not going to do that paperwork." Kensi smiled at that.
"Okay." Kensi gathered her things and walked to her car. She opened her door when Deeks pulled up. He smiled when he saw her.
"Hey." He slowly walked over to her.
"What are you doing here?" She asked knowing that he should still be at home resting.
"Was I fired while I was gone because last time I checked I work here?" He joked.
"You need to go home and rest." Kensi insisted.
"Okay mom." He said, his brow furrowed slightly. "Are you okay?" He asked after a bit of them just standing there in awkward silence.
"I'm fine." Kensi leaned up against her car and ran a hand through her hair. "I wasn't the one who got shot."
"Yeah, good times." Deeks tried to stay in a light mood but his features were serious. "Are you sure you're alright?"
"I just… It's my fault." She said it quietly to where he almost didn't hear it. Her eyes strayed down to stare at her shoe.
"What is?" Deeks asked stepping slightly closer. Kensi looked up at him and then at their work building and then back to him.
"They wanted me. They shot you to get to me. It's my fault." She said after a while. Deeks quickly jumped in.
"It isn't your fault. I should have changed my routine. I needed to be more careful." Kensi was looking down again. Without thinking about it Deeks reached out and brushed her cheek until his hand was under her chin. He lifted her head until their eyes met, deep brown meeting cool blue. "No one blames you. I don't blame you." Her hand came up and rested on his arm.
For a while they just stared at each other. Neither of them wanted to move afraid it might ruin the moment. Deeks leaned down until their lips were mere inches from each others. His hot breath made Kensi's skin crawl. The sound of someone clearing their throat had Deeks jumping away and Kensi standing up straighter.
"You forgot your phone." Hetty said handing it to her.
She stared them both down briefly before turning and walking away. Neither of them saw the slight smile that had spread across her lips. Once Hetty was in the building Kensi and Deeks turned to each other. A smile slowly made its way to Deeks lips just before Kensi let out a small laugh. Sure things might be awkward tomorrow, but for now things were pretty darn good.
I hope you liked it. I plan for it to be only a one-shot though I will right more if you beautiful readeers like it. Review.
