Percy enjoyed working with his friend James. The two were close and that was important, as they were family.
James was an older brother figure to Percy and he enjoyed looking after the green tank engine. He always wanted to be sure that he is okay and well.
Unfortunately, one autumn morning on Sodor, James awoke complaining of boiler pains.
"They're really painful, driver." He whimpered.
His fireman checked his temperature. "I'm afraid you have a fever, James -and its sky high. You need to go to the Steamworks, buddy."
James groaned.
Percy felt sorry for his big brother, but was also worried. James was meant to be working with him at Brendam Docks.
Now who was he going to work with?
"Well, considering James is ill, I'm sending Gordon to the Docks, and Henry shall take the Express when he returns from the Mainland. He shouldn't be long, so Gordon will be waiting at the docks for you Percy." Announced the Fat Controller after hearing the verdict of James' quandary.
He turned on his heel and strode away.
Emily had to take James to the Steamworks to be inspected and repaired.
The red engine smiled feebly at his adoptive little brother as he was pulled out of Tidmouth.
"Go Percy I know you'll be fine." He encouraged weakly as he was led out of his berth.
But Percy wasn't so sure.
Despite his doubts, Brendam was expecting him, so he chuffed away.
...
The sea glistened in the sunlight and seagulls shrieked loudly. Cranky Porter and Salty were bustling around as usual. Underneath Cranky with a line of flatbeds, was Gordon.
"Hello Percy!" he boomed happily "I hoped I would be working with you soon enough."
"Hi dad." Percy responded with a small smile. He did feel a little better.
"Let's get started on some work, shall we?"
"Your trucks are due for the Steamworks." huffed Cranky.
"You're not the Dock manager!" The railway's number six locomotive protested.
"Well, the real one's not available- he in a meeting now, if you'll excuse me, I'm busy!" He snapped irritably.
'Oh bother- I don't even know what ones are mine.' Percy thought to himself.
He hesitated nervously, hoping that something would come to him.
It didn't.
"Oh bother!" He wheeshed to himself.
Gordon saw the little engine's agitation and took pity on him.
"They're behind the oil tankers next to my flatbeds." He told him kindly.
"Thanks dad!" Exclaimed Percy, relieved that he now knew where they were.
"You're welcome son." Replied Gordon
So Percy coupled on to his trucks, and he set off for Crovan's Gate.
He met James and Victor there, so he asked how things were coming. Victor informed that some parts in James' boiler were bust, so he needed new parts. Percy had brought some, and the remainder were due in later.
So with happy thoughts Percy worked hard, with Gordon doing his best to keep his son right.
Percy had learned that if he has to work with someone else because someone he knew was ill, then he could trust them to work with him and get the job done.
...
Poor Percy- I know how you feel half the time. Another request for tate310. Hope you enjoyed, and please review.
