A Chance Encounter - an InuYasha/Yu-Gi-Oh! Oneshot.
AN: I told you I didn't just do YGO. Ok, so this one has a guest appearance, but it's also been in the making for about a year. My first oneshot/drabble. (was originally meant to be a drabble but went on for too long)
The bell above the door jingled, and Kagome looked up. It wasn't often that they had customers.
At first she jumped, and her eyes widened – what was InuYasha doing here, and coming in through the front door like a normal person? – before noticing the lack of red gi and dog ears. Weird.
"Excuse me, can I help you?"
The boy turned around and Kagome was startled to see spirit energy coming off him in waves.
"Oh, thank you. I was wondering whether any of these spell tags actually work."
"Which kind?" she asked, coming out from behind the counter.
"These," the boy said, pointing.
She looked. And blinked.
"Those are the tags for warding and binding evil spirits."
"Could you tell me how they're supposed to work?"
Kagome looked at him carefully. "Well, basically you just slap the ofuda onto whatever's holding the spirit. The spirit would have to be held by something, though. You can't bind something without anything to bind it to."
"Ah. I see."
"But . . ." Why am I doing this? "You probably shouldn't use those ones."
The boy's head tilted to one side in a question. "Why ever not?"
"My grandfather made them," she said wryly. "He likes to think he can, but he can't. I could give you some a friend made if you'd like. Despite his being a pervert, they actually work."
"Ah – only if it's no trouble-"
"Really, it isn't. You're about the most exiting thing that's happened this week," she said, going out back to fetch them. "How many did you say you wanted?"
"Er – just the one."
"Just the one? You can't do much with just one." Nonetheless, she returned with just the one ofuda.
"I wasn't planning to," he said, sounding slightly embarrassed. "It's more for a sort of . . . practical joke."
Practical joke, huh? She wondered as he left. He seemed almost too polite to go playing practical jokes, especially ones that involve real evil spirits. Talk about looking alike but having different personalities. . .
