She watched her Daniel run towards Anubis – run through him. She felt a shuddering emotion down her spine, and a stone sank into her stomach. Her breath came faster, as her guilt overwhelmed her. Daniel turned, begging the others to help him stop the horrors that Anubis planned. Her breathing was ragged.

Anubis laughed again, and Daniel's face took on an expression of bewilderment. She felt her breathing slow, as she regained her composure. A sick sense of determination, of resignation, spread through her. She swallowed.

Anubis was speaking. "There's nothing you can do. You don't have the power!" His voice grated, her punishment for so long. Anger swirled in her. So long, but no longer. His words echoed. You don't have the power. Calm spread through her limbs, as she rose from the diner seat, and retook her other form, letting the waitress disappear. You don't have the power.

"But I do." The strength in her voice surprised her. She felt eerily calm, focused, an arrow drawn back before being released to its target.

Shock overtook Anubis' face. "You can't kill me, either."

"But I can fight you." She spoke with an assurance she did not feel. She imagined it. Facing Anubis in battle, after enduring his taunts, his arrogance, for so long.

"You can't win!" Anubis was confused. He could not hope to understand the motivations that drove her. Her scorn and anger gave her strength to continue.

"It won't matter. You won't be able to do anything but fight me back." She felt her confidence surge, as she realized she spoke truth. She could hold him at bay, save the universe.

But, forever? To entangle herself in an un-winnable battle for eternity? To spend the unending eons with her enemy, never winning, never losing? She knew she could not win. They were evenly matched. But she also knew that she would never give in. Not and risk the universe in a moment of despair. She would fight forever, never giving ground, for his sake. Daniel, who stared at her with hope and awe and sadness in his eyes. She knew that his friends needed him. The universe needed him. His work was not done.

She straightened her shoulders. Her work here was done. A new task awaited her. An unending task, a fit punishment for what she had caused. She would end what she had begun.

"What are you gonna do?" Anubis' eyes widened, and his nerve-grating smirk faded. He was afraid. He should be.

"Something I should have done a long time ago." She stepped toward him, arms stretching forward, to attack. Over Anubis' cries of "no", she spared a look for Daniel. He would Ascend. He would retake human form, to help his friends. He would be instrumental in so many lives. Her prodigy. Her success.

As she surged toward her forever-enemy, and disappeared with him, she reached out and touched Daniel's mind for a moment, wishing that his life would be full of good works, and happiness. She hoped he would succeed in improving many lives, as she had tried to do.

Go, Daniel. You are needed. This is the gift I can give you. My Daniel, my son. Go.

As Oma's thought disappeared, she rejoiced, and despaired. Forever.
