"A Leaf in the Wind"

Note: I saw a commercial for Serenity, which gave me the idea for this, however, I have not seen the movie yet so it might be way off. I'll extend and rewrite as needed to correct once I have seen the movie. ). I know it's short right now, sorry, I'll extend later.
Colorful blasts of enemy fire grazed past Serenity with mere feet to spare. A field of ships stood between Wash and the planet they needed to reach. It was his moment.
Flying had been a part of Wash's life for as long as he could remember. He had dreamed of one day being the pilot for a ship and traveling the galaxy. After he met Zoe that dream had become a very adventurous reality. He had flown from one side of the galaxy to the other. At least, it felt like that sometimes.
Now, all of his skill was needed to get them to the planet below. The ship wasn't in the best of conditions and Wash knew there was a very real possibility that he would not survive. He also knew that everyone on the ship was looking to him to get them through this. He wouldn't allow himself to fail them.
Dipping under a large enemy ship, Wash felt himself relax into the mentality of becoming one with his ship. He loved these moments – lived for them. He was Serenity.
"I am a leaf in the wind…watch me soar."
Everything else became a blur of noise and lights as he took them through the enemy barrage of fire and ships. He would make it – they would make it. He was a leaf in the wind.
