This isn't exactly the first Dinotopian fan fic I've written, but it's the
first one I've ever shared with anyone. One day I just started thinking
about what would happen to a Skybax with one wing, or a broken wing, and
then this story just came out. So, enjoy. And if you don't, then :P. (Your
opinions and constructive criticism welcome.)

Pelle paced outside the Canyon City hatchery, rustling her large wings and checking the sundial often. Her human partner, Shantelle, sat nearby, reading a scroll. She must have been reading very slowly; she hadn't rolled it any farther than the first few lines. Every time they heard something from the next room, they would tense and look expectantly toward the door, then relax as no one came out. Both were remembering the day when they brought Pelle's egg to the hatchery.
--Insert pretty flashback effect here--
It was a stormy day when disaster struck. Canyon City was dry, so rain was welcomed. Pelle was drowsing by her nest when the lightning hit the ledge. With a cry of alarm, she leaped into the sky as the cliff crumbled. The eggs rolled out of the nest and fell down, down, down, into the river below. Pelle dived straight down, worrying about nothing but the safety of her eggs. She caught one on her broad back, the rest fell, never to be recovered.
Pelle landed on the ledge and gently dropped the egg on the cliff edge, then launched off the cliff again to find Shantelle.
Shantelle had been sleeping peacefully during the storm, not even noticing when Pelle landed outside.
Until she screamed.
Shantelle sat bolt upright in bed. Grabbing her coat, she ran outside. "Gee, Pelle, you don't have to...What's wrong?"
Pelle didn't have time to explain to a human. She motioned for Shantelle to get on, then launched into space once more.
Shantelle, still half asleep, grabbed onto Pelle's neck and hung on, knowing that Pelle knew what she was doing.
Hopefully.
Pelle landed on the ledge and gently deposited the drowsy Shantelle. She sat patiently, waiting for her to notice that the eggs were missing. She had mostly recovered from her shock; loosing eggs were the way of the world. Some die, some live.
Shantelle stood up on the cliff and shook the rain from her short black hair. Why had Pelle decided to take her on a tour of her home in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm?
Then she noticed that the cliff ended a bit soon.
Then she noticed that there was only one egg.
"Oh my...Pelle? What happened?"
Pelle launched into a sign-language version, since Skybax's have no real language. Shantelle half-watched as she gently ran her fingers over the egg. She nodded. Good. It was whole.
Except for one hairline crack, running from top to bottom.

BWAHAHAHA! That is all I'm going to write now!
