Created for the Stargateland dialogue only fanfic challenge on LiveJounal.
This fic was written before SGU was canceled, possibly back during season 1, I don't remember XD
"What is it?"
"I dunna know,"
"Is it alive?"
"Mr. Volker, I'm not a Xenobiologist, why do ya think I know?"
"Sorrrrry, but you do tend to know things outside your field,"
"Aye, but that won't always be the case,"
"Hey, what'd you guys find?"
"Some kind of...living furball,"
"...You mean like a Tribble?"
"Eli,"
"What?"
"..."
"Well it could be,"
"Um, it's moving,"
"Really?"
"Eli, dunna get too close, we've no idea what it could do,"
"Oh come on, Rush, how could it be dangerous?"
"Well for one; it could be a lure, used by a massive subterranean creature, the likes of which we've never seen."
"..."
"Wow, Rush, do you have to do that?"
"I was simply pointing out a very real possibility,"
"Ya know, it could be poisonous,"
"Thank you, Mr. Volker,"
"...I think you guys are being way to cautious, I mean, yeah we've had some really bad luck when it comes to, well, everything we've run into out here but not everything is going to try and kill us!"
"You're right Eli, not everything is tryin', ta kill us. Some of 'em just happen to be there and they just happen to secrete a deadly neurotoxin,"
"Wow, how do you keep such a positive attitude out here,"
"It's a talent,"
"If you two are done snarking at each other,"
"Mr. Volker? Would ya mind tellin' me why ye decided to throw all caution to the wind and pick up a creature we know nothin' about?"
"...It blinked at me,"
"Ya know what? Fine, I give up, you two can go right ahead and get yourselves killed but I'll have no part in it,"
"So...it blinked at you?"
"How could I resist? Just look at it, it's like an extra fluffy chinchilla,"
"..."
"I wonder if Colonel Young will let me keep it as a pet?"
"Rush, care to explain why there's about a dozen rodent like creatures, running around the ship?"
"You noticed that did ya, Colonel? Mr. Volker, Eli and I, found them on the planet we just visited. If I had to guess, they brought some back with us,"
"And you didn't?"
"No, no, no. The creatures may be harmless, in of themselves but they could be host ta any number o diseases,"
"Uh-huh. All right, so uh, how did Eli and Volker get a dozen, or more, of these creatures on board, without anyone noticing until we were all ready in FTL?"
"I dunna know Colonel, why dunna ya ask them?"
"I will,"
"They don't have much in the way of claws or teeth, and they don't really eat much. I did some blood work, and I can't find any diseases, well that could infect humans anyway. As far as I can tell sir, they're not dangerous,"
"Yeah well, now what do we do with them?"
"We could keep them, unless you think it would be better if we went back to the planet and left them there,"
"Camille, I know you want to keep one but we can't afford too,"
"And why not, Lt. Johansen just said they don't eat much, are you saying we're so bad off we can't spare even a little food for pets?"
"That's not what I'm saying and you know it. These creatures are wild animals aside from that, they'll get under foot, get into things we don't need them getting into, they'll cause problems we can't afford that,"
"Colonel, I understand your caution, but there are ways to keep the creatures out of the way. Look around, they've been on board for only a few hours and there's all ready been a huge boost in moral,"
"And if they end up being too much trouble, we can just fry 'em,"
"..."
Hope you enjoyed.
