A/n: Hey, ya'll, I'm alive! XD It took this long, but my muse hit me for about half an hour in the middle of dorking about on one of my fave fanfics. This short drabble is whatcha get; enjoy!
AO Drabble
Olivia sank appreciatively into the high-end leather couch in Alex's and her apartment. The amazing give of the divan did very little to take away the pain of the day's same-old-same-old, but every little bit helped at the moment. She turned the TV on and left it on Boomerang, thankful for the silly sounds and bright colors; those did slightly better at dispelling the gruesome images lodged in her head.
Staring aimlessly at the screen, she hardly realized Alex had arrived until warm arms slid around her shoulders from behind. Distracted instantly, Olivia turned in the embrace and reciprocated. The look in the ADA's eyes was full of so much understanding that Liv could hardly stop the tears that threatened to fall.
"Liv, considering today's events…It feels so insignificant, but I love you," Alex whispered, and the tears spilled over in the detective's eyes. Liv pulled close into her girlfriend and hid her head in Alex's shoulder, simply breathing in her soothing, amazing scent.
"I love you too, Lex. That's never insignificant." Releasing a breath, Liv let go of Alex, who proceeded to move herself around the couch to sit beside the detective. "It's just," Liv continued as she rested her head on Alex's shoulder once more, "I feel so much more lately as if I'm holding the world together single-handedly, like I'm fighting every single person every day. I even find myself laughing at the depression, because I'm just one person. How much of a difference can I make? Is it all even worth it?" Alex's response was to pull Olivia to her completely, cradling her in her arms protectively. The sobs coming from the older woman wrenched at Alex's heart.
"It may not be worth it in the long run, Liv. However, isn't it enough to know that at the end of the day, you were able to give a victim's family some semblance of closure? Or be able to tell a young, broken woman that she could go home and rest just a little easier knowing that her vicious assailant would never see the light of day again?" She lifted Liv's chin with a finger and planted a passionate kiss on her lover's lips. Her eyes connected with Olivia's as soon as it was ended. The tears had dried, but Liv's eyes still quivered in sorrow.
"I know what you see every day, and I know that you won't allow yourself even a moment's breath of a vacation, but for just tonight, relax and let me do the worrying?" Liv's eyes slid shut as Alex moved her hands up to her shoulders and began massaging the hard and, to Alex's bemused ire, tight muscles. Immediately Olivia softened beside her. Liv watched the coyote fall with a whistle off a cliff predictably and smiled wearily.
Ten minutes later, the detective had completely lost consciousness, after finally losing a back-and-forth battle with sleep, and was lain out on the couch in Alex's arms. The both of them were covered in a blanket from the back of the couch, sagaciously pulled from there halfway into her massage by the ADA. Olivia snored slightly, amusing Alex with her adorable visage, completely relaxed knowing that she was nestled in the arms of the one woman who loved and understood her. And most importantly, she felt safe.
A/n: So whatcha think? Let me know, or not. :D
