Knowing

Author's Note: I wrote this a while back but somehow never published it. Enjoy!

"So," Stefan let his pensive gaze touch everyone in the room, "Do we all know what we have to do now?"

"Got it the first time little brother," Damon drawled from the wing chair. "Can we get to the killing now?"

"Right," Caroline chirped, straightening up from where she was leaning against the wall, "Let's do this." One would have thought they were off to a pep rally instead of to slay the big bad wolf.

Bonnie turned to check the spell one last time. She didn't need to, but it gave her something to do as the gang shuffled out of the boarding house. She jumped sky high when she felt a soft touch on her shoulder. She whipped around, her magic tightly coiled for attack.

"Damon, you startled me." She let out a whoosh of air but her heart kept on thumping. He was standing right in front of her, so still and full of a strange intensity.

"How long have you been standing here?" Why hadn't she felt him? "Anyways, you need to go and wait for my mark." Why wasn't he saying anything? "What is it Damon? You do have the dagger right?" For a minute, panic infused her. "I gave it to you yesterday." Still nothing. Just staring.

"OK Damon, you're starting to freak me out."

"I know what I have to do now," he finally deigned to speak, his eyes locked on hers.

"Well, duh," she let out a frustrated breath, "You just gave Stefan lip for going through the plan again."

"No, I'm not talking about the plan," he shook his head dismissively as if their intricate, months long researched plan on killing Klaus was a pesky fly buzzing around his head. "I'm talking about this," he moved closer to her and Bonnie gasped in surprise when he kissed her. Who knew the lips of such a hard man would be so soft.

Of course Bonnie had been kissed before, but she had never felt this. Damon's kiss expressed things she had no idea he felt. She felt his regret that he hadn't done this sooner. His wonder at how much better it was than in his wildest dreams. His hope that he would get to do it again.

"I don't know what will happen tonight, but I couldn't leave without doing that," he whispered against her lips.

She felt the slightest caress of his knuckles against her cheek and then he was gone. She stood still for a moment longer, only her heart beating a million miles an hour.

"OK Bonnie, concentrate," she gave herself a mental shake, "Klaus first, Damon later." Now, she too knew what she had to do.
