Gator took in a deep breath of air. It was nice to be back home again.
He had not long been home after docking at the harbour, and he was currently looking out over a cliff. The sea below sparkled with pink light and in the distance seagulls cawed loudly, hoping to find some food.
If he could close his eyes, and focused hard enough, he found himself back on the Island of Sodor. Memories of a certain green saddle tank engine came back to him. Gator chuckled. Percy was a curious little fellow that was to be sure.
But Gator liked that about people. He was pleased that he had taught his new friend a lesson in courage. Not that he would boast or anything, he didn't see the point in it- but there was something inside him that that thought he would never make a mark on the world.
But maybe that feeling was wrong.
Maybe Percy would use what he was taught by Gator and teach younger, inexperienced people and engines about courage too.
This made feel a little better.
Behind him a voice lashed into his thoughts. "Hey Gator! Never thought I see you!"
The green engine grinned in response.
"Hello Andy."
Beside him, a red engine drew up. He was similar to Gator, but a bit bigger than him. Even so, the two got along fairly well.
"So penny for your thoughts?"
"Well, I was just in a state of reminiscence that's all." Replied Gator calmly.
"It's not about that island you were at, is it?"
"No, it's about a friend I met there. His name is Percy."
Ah, I see. What's he like then?"
Gator chuckled. "Well Andrew, he's small, green-"
"So, basically you then?"
Andrew laughed and Gator glared at him, though he had a hard time trying to keep the smile forming on his face.
"Not really. Percy's an engine of his own. He's a kind and innocent engine. Not like me in the slightest. H also happens to be one of the bravest engines I ever had the honour of knowing."
"I see. He sounds like a nice engine." Admitted Andrew. "I'm not one for being round young engines, but your friend sounds amazing. I hope someday you'll see him again. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some trucks to take to the harbour."
With that, he left.
Gator gazed out to sea once more. Whilst he had been talking to Andrew, the sky had turned black, and the stars began sparkling over the sea.
"Andrew's right you know, Percy. You are truly an amazing engine. I hope I'll see again as I miss you. Goodnight, my friend." He whispered to the stars.
Meanwhile, on Sodor, Percy smiled a small, brave smile.
"I miss you lots Gator. I do hope you come back to Sodor soon. Goodnight."
Author's Notes: Well, I was clearing out some notes and I found the idea for this, along with some other ideas that's probably going onto this site soon. In the meantime I hope you enjoyed this oneshot.
