Agent York Decides to Propose Another Day

"Director," came the voice of the man who was at his side almost constantly, listening to and carrying out any orders that he had. Green eyes lifted from the clipboard in his arms and stared at the dark-skinned man from behind glasses, meeting the curious gaze of the counselor.
"Yes?" he raised his gray eyebrows expectantly and waited for the question to come.
"Agent Carolina is your daughter, correct?" asked the counselor in that same tone he always used.
"Correct," he answered with slightly narrow eyes, unsure of where the conversation was headed.
The counselor nodded to himself and turned to look out the mirror to the training grounds. Following his gaze, he saw that said daughter was sparring with her fellow teammates- North and South Dakota- and was, despite being outnumbered, winning.
Proud of his daughter, Leonard made a mental note to get a mug that said #1 Daughter/Creation. He preferred the word creation, because "daughter" reminded him of family, and family made him remember Alison.
Then he looked at the Leader board and saw Agent Texas ranked at the very top, with Carolina below, behind by just a few points.
He chose to stick with "#1 Daughter" instead.
"Do you worry that she will leave and get married one day?" the counselor questioned, noticing how he had stared at the rankings but did not comment on the matter.
Carolina? Married?
He raised his eyebrows at the counselor when Carolina's vicious shouting could be heard from below.
Not with that attitude, he thought. Then again, Alison had been the exact same.
"I'm not concerned, counselor. My daughter may be grown up now, and that tears at me. But then," the director looked to the counselor, "Then I remember that she is surrounded by men with guns and that I need not worry."
With that, the conversation was over. The director hadn't seen Agent York standing beside them, the blood drained from his face as he pocketed a small black box into his pants.
"This is why I always keep my armor on," York muttered under his breath.
