Miss You

Kairi sat, back against the Paopu Fruit Tree, watching the ocean's waves crash against the shore. They've been gone for an eternity. It's funny, the hours, days, years, flew by when she had them. The three of them always had dreams of leaving Destiny Islands, and now, it was almost like they left without her. She pulled her knees up to her chest. She missed them so much.

"You okay?" a voice called from behind the tree.

Kairi's head snapped up. Had someone seen her?

"It's Tidus. Do you need to be alone, or?"

"I'm not going to stop you from sitting here, Tidus." Kairi assured him. "I don't mind."

Tidus came out from behind the tree, and plopped down on the tree's large trunk. "Do you miss them, Kairi?"

Kairi nodded,."More than anything else in the world."

Tidus looked at her. "If I know Sora and Riku, they'll be back in no time."

Kairi tried to reply, but Tidus cut her off. "Here." He pulled out a tissue and handed it to her. "There's no reason to cry."

Kairi touched her cheek, which was wet. She had been crying. She forced herself to stop, and rubbed her face dry.

Tidus put his hand on her shoulder. "You know, you can cry if you want to. I won't tell anyone. I'm sure they miss you, too."

That's when the tears came, flooding, like a hurricane. She put her head in her hands as Tidus patted her back. "We all miss them, but you know what? They'll never forget us. And we'll never forget about them. I don't really know how to explain it, but...It feels like there's a part of them here, in our hearts." He said, putting his hand over his chest. "Without us, they can't be whole. So, they can never abandon us."

Kairi stopped crying. She looked up at Tidus, whose own eyes were wet with tears. Unlike her, his emotions didn't flood out of him, like they were bottled up for too long. Rather than a storm, his feelings poured out in a drizzle.

Tidus smiled and tried to hide a sniffle. "Sora and Riku love you, Kairi. That's why you have to be strong without them, because I know, wherever they are now, they miss you just as much."
