Moonlight
Moonlight... There was something about the moonlight that he'd always loved, ever since he was a boy. He used to say it was because it was pale like him, but it always shone brighter than the stars and that was what he was going to do one day. He loved the full moon most of all, when the whole world looked like it had been bathed in the finest whitest silk and put out for all to admire. It was perfect, and the best time for dancing.
Left, right, shift, step, jump, twist... His body flowed through the motions, feeling like he was gliding on the moon's silk, never moving more than it had to either way, never putting more effort into it than he needed to. The light, sweet, tinkling music that accompanied him shifted and changed its patterns as he moved, never sounding the same or repeating a refrain. The raven-haired Jounin smiled as he lifted his face back to the heavens above, allowing the moon's light to completely light it. He was truly alive tonight.
Then, as quickly as it had come the feeling of life left him in a series of juddering coughs that took his body and shook it. Damn. He'd forgotten to take his medicine again. Straightening up again, he pulled his light yukata closer around him and sheathed his sword, the two bells attached to the hilt jingling quietly against his hand. Then, Gekkou Hayate went inside. To wait for the next night he could feel alive.
