Emma really wished Ruby would get off work soon. She and Henry were having a bite to eat with Regina at the diner. Belle had been sitting at a nearby table reading when Henry asked her how her holiday was going.
That had been fine. The problems had started when Emma noticed Regina look over towards the door. Rumplestilskin had entered and made his way towards a table where Dr. Whale appeared to be waiting for him. Belle didn't notice and continued to chat with Henry. Emma hadn't missed the smirk starting to spread across Regina's face.
"What about mistletoe?" Emma had nearly choked on her hot cocoa. Belle had looked at Regina warily.
"Mistletoe? Isn't that just a poisonous parasitic plant?" Emma couldn't blame her for being wary. The words Regina and poison didn't normally mix well. Henry nodded while wiping his mouth with his sleeve.
"Yeah, but during Christmas holidays people who are in love kiss under it. Sometimes people who aren't do too but usually that ends with someone getting hit. Last year, Dr. Whale found out that Ruby has a wicked left hook." Emma couldn't help but match his smirk when she pictured Ruby decking the creepy doctor. At that point, Belle seemed to into deep thought. While Henry resumed his hot dog, Emma became slightly nervous at the smirk that was still on Regina's face. She was also praying to any god that would listen, that Belle didn't ask anymore relationship related questions. She didn't need the mental image of Rumplestilskin doing Anything with Anyone in her head.
Ruby was yelling goodbye to Ashley when she started to make towards the door. Having finished the inventory of the inn with Ashley, she was more than ready to go home. She spotted Belle putting on her coat through the door. "Hey Belle! Finally! I'm done for the night. Are you-" The rest of her sentence was halted by a surprise kiss from Belle. Ruby relaxed into it, but cut it off before it became anything more. She didn't want to give the diner and least of all Dr. Whale, a show. Ruby pulled back to see Belle's eyes twinkling at her with mischief.
"Mistletoe." Ruby nodded with a shy smile as Belle took her hand and they left the diner to go on their usual evening walk.
Neither, noticed Rumplestilskin drop the tea cup he was sipping from or it shattering on the floor.
"Too bad. We almost got a show..." commented Dr. Whale before Rumple violently shoved him out of his way as he made his way to the back door.
Emma just sat and blinked. Thinking back, she vaguely remembered Snow saying that Ruby and Belle were now together. Before their trip to Fairy Tale Land, Belle had still been with Gold.
"You gotta love holidays and their traditions. New Years Eve is coming up" said Regina as she took a sip from her drink. Emma couldn't help the grin that spread on her face.
