The cold New York air made some of my fur stand up on my back. It was 11:30 PM, I was sure of it. I couldn't sleep, it was just one of those nights. I couldn't stop thinking about...... him. He's amazing in so many ways. He's commanding, yet sincere. He's tough, but he's caring. I sighed, the closed my eyes. But it didn't work. The wind was disturbing me, whispering. It whispered coldly in my ear, "Tell him, tell him how you feel,". But the wind and I both knew that I could never tell Skipper how I feel about him. Now its midnight and the wind was still haunting me like a ghost. I couldn't take it anymore. As I got up out of my bed, I started thinking. 'What if he doesn't feel the same way? It could ruin our friendship,' I thought to myself. One side of me wanted to go to sleep, the other wanted me to march up to Skipper and tell him how I feel. The other side won for I soon found myself in the room of the four penguins. I gulped nervously. I knew that Skipper has ears like a hawk, but I took my chances. I quietly tip-toed to him and shook his shoulder to wake him up. I gazed at him. 'He looks so peaceful when he's asleep..' I thought to myself and continued to shake his shoulder. He woke up, blinked his eyes a few times then gazed at me suspiciously.

"Marlene, what are you-" he started, but I cut him off.

"Whisper," I whispered to him.

"Marlene, what are you doing here?" he whispered back. I had to think of a lie, and fast.

"I had a nightmare and now I'm scared," I said softly. Skipper got out of his bunk quietly so he wouldn't wake the other snoozing three. He walked over to the other side of the room and motioned me to come. I did.

"What was your nightmare about?" Skipper asked quietly. I gulped hard.

"It was about a girl like me who was being chased my someone," I started. "She was being chased in dark woods, pitch black. She tripped on a root and the chaser attacked her, and then I woke up," 'What a lie," I thought. Skipper nodded in sympathy and put his flipper on my shoulder. I could feel my cheeks redden and tried to hide it from him.

"Just remember Marlene, it was just a dream," he reassured me softly. I smiled sincerely.

"Thanks Skipper," I whispered to him. He smiled back.

"My pleasure Marlene," he said and waddled back to his bunk bed. I sighed and got up and headed towards the door. But before I could, I felt a familiar flipper catch my hand and turn me around. And we kissed. It was awkward at first, his cold beak against my soft lips, but I gradually got used to it. After about 10 seconds, we pulled apart.

"Marlene, you've opened my eyes," he said softly to me and he waddled back to his bunk bed. I left. As soon as I got home, I went to sleep with a smile on my face. My dream finally came true.
