Dr. Horrible was still working for the ELE, but Billy's heart wasn't in it. He had been struggling with deciding between being Dr. Horrible and Billy after..."the incident" there seemed to be no need for Billy anymore, but he still stayed. had been working in the background of the ELE lately, making weapons for the others to use in heists, and not going to the heists. There was no fun in it anymore for him without Captain Hammer, but the others didn't seem to mind.
He sighed in frustration, erasing his newest ray for what seemed like the billionth time. This one would allow teleportation as long as he could work out the part where your particles travel so fast, they spread out and turn you into a liquid. He'd had this problem before with the transmatter ray too. He needed a break, his hands hurt from writing too much. His hands. His hands. He stared at his hands, closing his eyes painfully, as the flashbacks started.
These were the same hands that had folded laundry next to a stunningly beautiful girl for quite a while.
The same hands that had chosen to operate the remote control for a van instead of listening to the girls cause.
The same hands that operated the same remote to save the girls life, although she never knew that.
The same hands that had bought a frozen yogurt for the girl.
The same hands that belonged to the same man who almost kissed that same girl, the girl of his dreams.
The same hands that built the death ray that killed that amazingly gorgeous girl who never knew about his love for her.
The same hands that brought the lifeless body of that same girl to the stretcher. He can still remember her limp body in his arms, her skin already cold. It still gives him nightmares.
The same hands that now go lay flowers at that beautiful, kind and smart woman's grave every Wednesday and Saturday. Their laundry days.
The same hands that were now wiping a steady stream of tears from his face. He had loved that girl, her beautiful red hair, the way she talked, the way she cared. She had never known his feelings. but she would have never loved him back anyways. He now realized how naive he had been, how such a pure-hearted person like her would have never loved a villain like himself. Her last words follow him everywhere. "Captain Hammer will save us." Well, where had that fool been when Penny needed him!? Gone. Just like she was now. The man now knew that there was no cure for a truly broken heart, like his own. He also knew that, without a doubt, he was Billy. Dr. Horrible was numb, nothing bothered him. Billy now felt very far from numb. Billy was heartbroken beyond repair, there was no doubt in his mind that he would never see the beautiful angel that was Penny ever again.
