No Good Deed
Elphaba swept into the small room in the tower at Kiamo Ko, sobbing. She took a moment to compose herself, knowing the devastation one mispronounced syllable could cause, before she pulled the Grimmerie out of her bag. Flipping pages, she began to skim frantically.
"Fiyero…,"she whispered sadly, "Oh Fiyero, I told you… I told you I wasn't worth it. I told you not to come…"
She began chanting quietly: "Eleka namen namen atum atum eleka namen…" Why am I doing this? Because… I love him, she answered her thought quietly. But I don't even know what I'm doing by reading this!
"Fiyero," she whispered shakily as she pulled out the bracelet with a large silver heart-shaped charm- it had a spell on it so that she'd always be able to see Fiyero, just by speaking his name.
The image that appeared horrified Elphaba- his uniform was stained with blood and he was on a pole, much like a scarecrow.
"That's it! Scarecrow…" she remembered what had happened with Nessa on the first day of school at Shiz. Perhaps a different approach… "Let his flesh not be torn, let his blood leave no stain; though they beat him, let him feel no pain…"
She panicked as the image became harder and harder to see. "No! No, no, no, no! Please Fiyero, don't… don't leave me…"she whispered, trailing off.
Her chanting became more frantic. "Let his bones never break and however they try to destroy him, let him never die; let him never die!" In her desperation, she resumed the chant from the Grimmerie.
As the image completely faded from view, Elphaba panicked more and more. "Oh sweet Oz, Fiyero…please…please"
She finally gave up, exhausted to a point where she could no longer continue. "Fiyero, I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry…"
Reflecting, she realized that everyone she had ever tried to help had ended up either hurt or dead. What if that's my fault? What if they would have been fine if I hadn't interfered?
"Fine. Fine." She choked out angrily. "I won't… I won't let this happen to anyone else. They want a Wicked Witch? Well, they'll get one, alright…
"They'll have their Wicked Witch."
