Cosmic Love.

Sometimes when Spock looked at Kirk he felt like he was about to implode. Like Spock's eyes had burned a blazing path right to his core; and maybe one day the heat would spread like the embers of a lit cigarette and burn him whole.
Sometimes Kirk felt like that fathomless dark of Spock's eyes reflected himself. The real Kirk; the selfish boy huddled in a tight ball atop dust, blood and rubble. A mistake, a catastrophe, the scream behind the smile.
Sometimes Kirk felt like his smile was going to come apart at the seams. Like the red thread cros stitched into mouth was unraveling, and then the whole mask would disintegrate; like petrified rock. Sometimes he wished it would.
But then Spock would look at him, and it was like he'd swallowed a thousand fireflies and everyone could see their shine. Like someone had lit the flint at the base of a firework, and now his heart tore bright patterns across the night sky.
A/N: Inspired by Florence + The Machine's Cosmic Love. Sort of Spock/Kirk's song for me right now. Give it a listen, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
