Hi! Here's my latest story! I received a writing prompt from daniellm, and that's what this story is based on. Hope you all enjoy it!
By the way, this is the time period when Henry and Regina have left Storybrooke. As much as I love Swanbeliever and Captain Cobra, they are not in this story.
I will update this every Friday from now on, unless something comes up.
I do not own OUAT or its characters.
Chapter One
Just Another Day
Wake up.
Breakfast.
Work.
Lunch.
Work.
Home.
Dinner.
Sleep.
That was a normal day in Storybrooke. It may seem boring, but to Emma Jones and her family, it was the best type of day they could ask for; and those weren't the only things that happened in a day. That's just the things that happen everyday without question.
Emma yawned as she opened her eyes. It took a few moments for her vision to clear, but when it did, she looked over at her husband.
Killian smiled. "Morning, love."
"How long have you been awake?" Emma asked, yawning once more.
Killian shrugged. "Not long."
Emma gave him a gentle kiss. She pulled away and sat up. "We should get ready for work."
Killian nodded and sat up with Emma. "Aye." They both stepped out of bed, going over to their closet to get a change of clothes.
Once they were downstairs, Killian made some hot chocolate while Emma got them some pancakes.
"Hot cocoa is ready, love," Killian explained, setting two mugs on the table.
"With whip cream and cinnamon?" Emma asked in a teasing tone.
"I wouldn't dare forget it."
Emma smiled as she put the last pancake on a plate and brought it to the table. She and Killian sat down and enjoyed a quiet breakfast.
Killian helped Emma put on her coat when they were about to leave. "It's a bit chilly out there today."
Emma nodded as she slipped her boots on. "Yeah. Fall is coming, that's for sure."
Killian opened the front door for Emma and followed her out, taking her hand.
Emma let out a content sigh.
"What is it love? Is something troubling you?" Killian asked, worried.
Emma shook her head. "No, that's not it. I'm just happy. These past couple of months, well, years, have been so… stress free. No villains. No curses. It's been amazing."
Killian nodded, smiling. "Aye. It has been."
They reached the station and walked in. Emma and Killian sat at their desks that were right across from each other. Emma decided she didn't want to use the sheriff's office to be her office. She decided to let David use the office because she wanted to sit close to Killian.
"Hey, guys," David said as he walked out of his office.
"Hi, Dad," Emma said.
"Hey, Dave," Killian greeted.
That's how they started out their mornings. Greeting each other and then going to work. There were the occasional bar fights or robberies of the convenience store, but that was it. It seemed like they were in for a quiet life.
For now.
Emma had just finished up some paperwork when she felt a wave of sickness wash over her. Emma shook her head and drank some water, but the movement just made her dizzy.
Emma stood up from her chair and ran to the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
Killian looked up from his desk. "Emma?" He stood up and walked to the bathroom. "Emma, darling, are you alright?" He opened the door and his heart clenched at the sight in front of him. His wife was hunched over the toilet, coughing. He rushed over to her and rubbed her back. "It's okay, Emma."
Emma finished coughing and sat back up. She wiped her mouth with some toilet paper and stood up with Killian's help.
"You need to go home, love," Killian said. "Let's go grab your jacket."
Emma shook her head slightly. "No, I'm fine."
"No, you're not. You're sick," Killian argued. "You just threw up."
"I know… but I am fine." She gave him a weak smile, tried to convince him to let her stay and work.
Killian shook his head. "Sorry, love. I'm not letting my wife stay at work while she's sick."
"I'm fine now. I must've just ate to much food for breakfast."
Killian quirked a brow. He knew that Emma was not going to go home willingly. He crossed his arms. "Fine, but if you feel sick at all today, I'm taking you home so you can get some rest."
Emma couldn't help but feel like she as being scolded like a small child. She kissed his cheek. "Thanks, Killian."
Killian smiled. "Let's get some work done."
Emma smiled and followed Killian out.
"Are you alright, Emma?" David asked.
Emma nodded. "Yeah. I think I just ate too much food for breakfast."
David nodded, accepting the answer. "Okay." He went back to work in his office.
Emma and Killian sat back down at their desks. Emma knew Killina wasn't doing any work. She could practically feel his eyes burn into her. Emma couldn't help but smile. No one had ever been so protective of Emma. David was, yes, but that was in a fatherly way. He didn't want Emma to get her heart broken or hurt. Killian was protective in a different way. He refused to let Emma get hurt in any way.
When the clock hit twelve-thirty-two, Killian shrugged his jacket on and stood up. "I'm going to go grab lunch from Granny's."
Emma nodded and grabbed her jacket. "I'll come."
Killian was about to protest, he thought Emma needed to just stay seated until she felt better, even though she seemed fine now, but he stopped himself. He smiled and took Emma's hand. He called out to David, "We'll be back with lunch!"
David nodded and waved them goodbye.
"You're feeling better?" Killian asked as they walked towards Granny's.
"Yeah, I told you already - too much breakfast food."
"Are you sure you want to eat lunch?"
Emma nodded. "I'm fine, Killian. Really."
"Okay, I just don't want it to get worse."
Emma smiled at him. They walked into Granny's and Killian began to order. Killian explained what he wanted, what David wanted and began to say what Emma wanted, "... grilled cheese-"
"Wait, I think I'll have the double cheeseburger with fries," Emma interrupted.
Both Granny and Killian stared at her.
"Are you feeling okay, Emma?" Granny asked.
"Yeah, I just want to try something else," Emma explained. "And a cheeseburger sounds really good right now."
Killian and Granny shared a look and then Granny went back into the kitchen.
"What?" Emma asked.
Killian shrugged. "It just surprised me."
"Same here," Emma laughed.
Killian chuckled and put his arm around Emma, rubbing her side. "It's a good thing you came with me. I would've gotten you grilled cheese and onion rings."
"Which I still would've eaten… probably."
"Probably?" Killian chuckled.
Emma laughed. "Probably."
"Here you are," Granny said, placing a brown paper bag in front of the couple. "Enjoy the burgers."
Emma smiled. "Thanks, Granny." Emma picked up the bag and her and Killian walked back to the station, hand in hand.
Emma kicked her shoes off and threw her jacket on the rack. She walked over to the couch and collapsed on it. "I'm beat."
Killian chuckled and went to sit next to her. He threw his arm around the back of the couch and Emma leaned against him. "We didn't do hardly anything today."
"I know. It was exhausting," Emma exaggerated.
"Love, you're not making any sense," Killian laughed.
"I know."
"Are you hungry?"
Emma nodded.
Killian shifted to stand up. "Okay, I'll go make some dinner."
Emma didn't let him move. "No."
"Why not, love?"
Emma shrugged. "I don't know."
Killian chuckled. "Do you want to eat?"
"Yeah."
"Do you want me to make you something?"
Emma shook her head.
"Do you want to eat?" Killian repeated.
Emma nodded.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Nothing. We can eat later."
"What do you want to do?"
"Take a nap."
Killian chuckled. "While you sleep, I'll make dinner."
"Okay, but only when I'm asleep."
Killian nodded. "Okay, love." He pulled Emma closer.
Emma snuggled against him and relaxed. It took her a few minutes to fall asleep, but, eventually, she did.
Killian smiled. He almost fell asleep too, but he knew Emma would complain if she woke up and there was no food. Chuckling to himself, Killian gently moved Emma to lay on the couch. He kissed her head and walked into the kitchen.
Please let me know if you enjoyed this! The next two chapters pick up the pace of the story. There will be some sort of conflict, but this chapter was pure fluff.
