The Magical Thread
Author's note
Hey guys! I went and did a few changes… well, I changed everything. I didn't like some of the things I wrote, so I'm just going to start from scratch.
Stay tuned for the new stories I am going to add as well as update a few.
Besides my love for anything related to Naruto and Hinata, I also love Minato and Kushina. I have read quite a few fanfictions based on their relationship, and it inspired me to write one of my own.
I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I do. Please leave constructive criticism and don't leave hateful, condescending messages. If you do not like reading my writing… well, I am not holding you against your will so, please exit your way out of my cyberspace. If you are sensitive and also get easily offended, then I also suggest for you to exit. I don't have time to go back and forth with stupidity.
I named this story 'The Magical Thread' which is based on:
The Red Thread of Fate - an East Asian belief originating from Chinese legend. According to this legend, the Gods ties an invisible red cord around the ankles of those that are destined to meet one another in a particular situation or help each other in a certain way. In Japanese and Korean culture, the red thread is usually tied around the little finger. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. "The magical cord may stretch or tangle, but it will never break."
Anyway enjoy reading and thank you again!
Prologue: Whirlpool's Demise
"Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict... breeds catastrophe."
- Vision from Captain America: Civil War (2016)
In a land far away, lived a powerful clan called the Uzumaki. Uzushiogakure no Sato was renowned by shinobi from all over the world. Powerful shinobi came from the Uzumaki clan, known for their vast chakra reserves, specialising in the art Fuinjutsu and that coupled with a longer lifespan, many Nations feared and respected the Uzumaki clan. However, their power, although respected, was also seen as a threat to many of the other Nations. It did not help that Uzushiogakure did not engage in trading with the other Nations. Uzumaki's were always expanding their knowledge and power, but they kept their progression a secret, and this caused many shinobi to fear what they were capable of, and this fear had driven them to destroy the land.
"Kushina! Kushina! Come here. Now!" a middle-aged man with red hair shouted through the explosions. "D-daddy, what is happening?" The little girl named Kushina answered.
"Baby, listen to us and come away from the opening." crouching next to her father was her mother looking distressed.
"Sweetheart you must listen to me. We all can't make it.-"
-BOOOOM. Another explosion went off a couple a miles away.
"Dad w-what is happening?"
"Sweetheart you must listen to me. We don't have much time." Her father explained. "Your mother and I have to stay behind. You must leave and never return-
"D-dad? What-"
"Kushina! Listen to me. You must leave and never return here, do you understand? You must never return. Make your way to Konohagakure no Sato. The Village Hidden in the Leaves, it is located in the Land of Fire. Ask for a woman named Mito Uzumaki" her father explains with haste.
"Kushina. My baby. We love you so much, darling. You are strong, beautiful and I could not have been prouder of you. Your father and I love you very much. Never forget that!" her mother cried, tears rolling down her eyes.
"M-mom!" cries Kushina.
With tears in his eyes, her father proceeds to seal several scrolls and books into storage. Then moving to seal it onto his daughter.
BOOOOOM. The explosion was coming closer to their location.
"Kushina, we love you so much. I've sealed most of our scrolls in these storage seals, and only you can access it. You must take care of our legacy. You are still a child, so I made sure that you can access it when you turn 16. Sweetheart, I want you to remember everything. Never forget the past as it will help you in the future."
"Darling, make sure you do what makes you happy. Don't let people change you. Surround yourself with people who support and love you."
"M-mom, D-dad. I love you too. Please come after me. Don't leave me."
"Oh Baby. We will always be with you." she points at Kushina's heart, "right in here."
"They are coming we must teleport her away now." her father says quickly.
Her mother and father kiss and embrace her for a few minutes. "Seal: Teleportation Jutsu!" shouted her parents.
"Goodbye Kushina, my little girl" whispers her father.
A bright light consumes Kushina while her parents are still embracing her. And as the light brightens, it suddenly vanishes along with their daughter.
"Our baby is safe now" whispers his wife in the distance.
"Do you have chakra left, my love?" her husband asks while still embracing her.
"Just a bit, but not enough to teleport us. Why?"
"Shall we leave a present behind for our guest?" her husband smirks, blood coming out of the side of his mouth.
"It would be rude to send our guests away without one" she chuckles as she gathers her chakra and connects with her husband's chakra.
They stand there for what felt like hours looking into each other's eyes. The enemy shinobi could be heard coming in their direction, a minute away.
"I'll see you on the other side, my love. I love you!" she cries while smiling at her husband. Their chakras were increasing in power and size. The trapped energy was waiting to be released.
"And I love you, my angel" he whispers. A lump in his throat was making it hard for him to breathe.
Their lips connect in an embrace filled with passion.
"They are over here!" the enemy screams closer than ever.
The brightest light consumes around the whole country. From afar the explosion sounds, and looks like something never seen before. It neutralised everything within its vicinity. It destroyed and killed any life form leaving nothing but a barren, desolate place. The once proud country ceases to exist. And those who have escaped sought refuge in other shinobi villages. Those fortunate to be allowed refuge lived peacefully and others were controlled and dissected for research to gain knowledge of the Uzumaki clan.
A few weeks later...
Since the incident, she was found by a family of merchants and she asked to travel with them until she arrived at the gates of Konoha safely. Her hair covered with a cloak she was wearing. She informs the guards that she is looking for Mito Uzumaki. The guards were suspicious because a little girl was looking for the matriarch. Feeling sorry for the girl and the state she was in, all bruised up with scratches, they decided to take her to Sandaime Hokage instead.
Once they arrived at the tower, they proceeded to walk through the corridors and use the stairs to get to the top of the tower. Kushina stood in front of the intimidating brown doors, nervous as to what would happen if she goes in. The guards proceeded to knock on the door and open it once they heard a raspy voice say "Enter!"
Kushina entered along with the guards. "Hokage-sama, we apologise for the disruption. We found this girl at the village gates injured asking for Mito Uzumaki."
The village leader's eyes widen at the mention of the woman, and he looks at Kushina strangely. "Who are you?"
Stubbornly, Kushina held her head high. "I wish to only speak to Mito Uzumaki."
"I cannot let you do that, child. She's currently indisposed. So I ask you again, who are you and why are you seeking Mito-sama?"
"Are you deaf old man?! I am only going to speak to Mito Uzumaki. If she's not here, then I will leave." her anger and frustration getting the best of her. The village leader's eye twitched at the slight she made of his old age.
"There is no-"
The door opens unexpectedly and in walked a woman. From Kushina's perspective, she wasn't just any woman. Her presence commands nothing but respect and the energy she gives off was intimidating but warm at the same time. Her attire consisted off a white kimono with red swirls on her sleeves. Her pale ivory skin stood in great contrast to her crimson pinned hair. From the distance, Kushina can see her beautiful face, a few wrinkles on it which did not lessen her beauty. She had a knowing smile on her face.
"Lady M-Mito Uzumaki!" the guards bowed in front of her.
"Leave us and go back to patrolling the gates!" the village leader said sternly. "Hokage-sama!" the guards both bowed before they used the shunshin to disappear. Shocked by the change of events, the Hokage stands up to greet her.
"Hiruzen, care to explain why you did not bring me the girl?" her voice sounded sweet like honey.
"M-Mito-sama you needed rest. Your health is deteriorating."
If Kushina didn't find the situation stressful, she would have laughed. A village leader was cowering before a woman. The lady waves her hand at him to dismiss him.
"A-are you Mito Uzumaki?" Kushina spoke up. The woman turns her attention to the little girl concealed by the cloak she's wearing.
"Take off your cloak, child. You are safe here." Kushina followed her order and dropped the cloak revealing her bright red hair and violet eyes. It shocked the leader, not seeing hair as bright as hers since...
'Oh, she's an Uzumaki.' thought the Hokage.
"Now child, tell me your name" Mito sat down on the chair in front of her.
"My name is Kushina Uzumaki, Mito-sama" Kushina bowed before the woman remembering the proper etiquette in greeting an elder.
"Kushina. Please, call me grandma. Now tell me what happened to Uzushiogakure." Mito embraces her waiting for her to explain. The tears gathered in Kushina's eyes as she talks about the attack for the first time since it happened. She let out everything that she kept bottled up for weeks. Mito holding Kushina while she sobbed and grieved for her parents. The Hokage was listening intently and he felt sorry for the poor girl who was going through so much.
"Child. You have endured quite a lot, but know this, your parents and Uzushiogakure didn't die in vain. Their spirit and their Will of Fire was passed on to you." Mito holds her tightly and rocks her back and forth.
"I want you to know something. You were supposed to come here next year but due to unforeseen circumstances that have led to us meeting sooner than I thought."
"W-what do you mean? I was supposed to meet you with my parents?" Kushina was shocked at this.
"Yes, you were. I have to tell you the purpose of that meeting. So, listen to me carefully Kushina."
"That is not a good idea Mito-sama she is only a child," Hiruzen speaks up after remaining silent for quite some time. Mito ignores Hiruzen.
"I am dying Kushina." Kushina's eyes widen with fear and helplessness. "No! I just met you!" she refuses to believe her.
"My health is getting worse, and I might be gone tomorrow. I feel it in my old bones that my time to go is almost here. I am the container of the Nine-Tailed Fox. And the power is going to consume me soon, lest I have a successor. Kushina you have to be the next Jinchuriki."
"Grandma! The Kyuubi is the most powerful tailed beast in the world. and he is filled with so much hate. Everyone is going to start hating me as well. Not only am I an outsider but now I have to be a Jinchuriki?!" Kushina cried.
"No one else can do this but you. Your parents believed in you. Your chakra reserves are larger than average and your speciality is the Adamantine Sealing Chains: a powerful Jutsu that can bind the Nine-Tailed Fox. You are Kushina Uzumaki. That is why no one else will do but you." Mito explains. Kushina thought of her parents after a moment of silence.
"Mito-sama, you need to rest. The child has been through enough. At least wait a couple of days after-"
"You old fool! I don't have days. I feel the Nine-Tailed Fox trying to break through his restraints. We don't have time!" Mito shouts at Hiruzen in frustration.
"Grandma... I have decided that I'll be the next Jinchuriki. My parents would have wanted this, and I am following their wishes." Kushina sobs.
"Before the sealing takes place. I want to tell you something important. Hold my hand and listen close, child" Mito closes her eyes in pain.
"The only way you can tame the Nine-Tailed Fox is through love. Love can overcome hate. So surround yourself with people who love you. And fill your empty vessel with love." Mito cries along with Kushina.
The Hokage leads both of them to another room with two tables. Anbu is guarding the door while the transfer happens.
"Be strong Kushina. I love you, child. You remind me of myself" Mito chuckles. Kushina remains silent as the tears roll down her face. The Hokage proceeds with the transfer. "Goodbye, grandma. I love you too." They both close their eyes and Mito smiles as her life force proceeds to leave her. A bright light consumes the room. After the light fades, Kushina was passed out on the table.
That day Mito Uzumaki was declared deceased.
