Disclaimer: This is not a direct improvement of the "tutorial chapters" (prologue to chapter 6), but rather a rewrite of the plot up until that point. I will try to keep it accurate to the best of my ability, but even then some roles may be off by pure accident.
Premonition
Panic flooded Cheve as cannon shots were fired. Screams echoed through the hall; the late night raid took all by surprise. The Hoshidan representatives, including the current King Sumeragi, Queen Mikoto, and their government aides are rushing around the room trying to make plans and packing up their supplies. Suddenly, Miyasaki, Sumeragi's head tactician and advisor, barged into the room and quickly slammed the door.
"Miyasaki, who's attacking us!?" King Sumeragi barked to his trusty advisor as she entered the room.
"N-Nohrians..." Miyasaki stammered between rapid breathing, trying hard to let her terror not consume her. "G-Garon is... Run..."
"Garon? But this was supposed to be a peace conference!" Queen Mikoto cried as Sumeragi wordlessly dashed towards the room's exit. He seemed to change his ideas before rushing out, though, pausing at the exit. "Mikoto, get the children safe! Take your bow if trouble arrives. I'm going to head for the Raijinto!" He bellowed, slamming the doors against the outside walls.
"Miyasaki, please calm down. I need you to plan an escape route towards our sleeping chambers and then outside safely." Mikoto didn't want to admit it, but she asked for help mostly because she didn't know the pathway towards her step-children's sleeping quarters.
"Shh, shhh... It's okay baby girl..." Mikoto whispered, soothing the young Sakura. "You all should be ready to leave now since you shouldn't have brought much, right?"
"Mom? Where's Corrin?" Little Hinoka asked, though not much older than Takumi and Sakura. A moment of silence passed as Ryoma and Mikoto slowly gained a look of terror on their faces.
"I... I saw Corrin walk out the room before this happened, promising not to go far... Should've been back by now..." Ryoma murmured.
"CORRIN!" Mikoto screeched, but Miyasaki ran in front of her before she could run.
"Lady Mi-"
"GET OUT OF MY WAY!"
"MIKOTO! We are under attack! We can't just barge into the open looking for someone we have no clue where they're at! That'll get us killed!" Miyasaki roared back in defiance.
"THEN SO BE IT! I AM NOT LETTING MY-"
Miyasaki glanced to the side to see a Nohrian archer pull back on a bow, and quickly tackled Mikoto to protect her, falling on top of each other.
"Everybody, run!" Miyasaki ordered. Despite her commands, Ryoma and Hinoka dashed towards the archer.
"We can fight!" Takumi responded, staying by his mother's side and drawing his bow. Sakura was too scared to know what to do, trembling in place.
Author's Note: When each battle starts, I will personally explain each detail about the battlefield as if it was a guide. Here, the player would be able to control the little Hinoka and Ryoma (with smaller sprites to boot). Takumi and Sakura are AI-controlled allies, while Miyasaki and Mikoto are greyed out as if they already moved. The map is more than just the 3-tile wide hallway the family is in; it will turn left and lead outside.
Because the single enemy is an archer, Miyasaki will explain to the player about the Weapon Triangle. Hinoka will do a little less damage, and Ryoma will do a little more. They all have bronze weapons. The archer will drop to about 1/3rd of his hp, who will then step back to shoot Hinoka for almost half of her hp. When the ally phase comes, Takumi will fire at the archer- he retaliates, but Takumi follows up with another attack due to having higher speed and slay the archer. Sakura will waddle over to Hinoka to heal her.
Now that it's the second turn, more dialogue will engage.
"Phew, that was close," Hinoka sighed, covering up a torn part of her sleeve.
"But this means we're well equipped for battle!" Miyasaki exclaimed happily, proud of the children. "My Yukimura should be happy to work with fine allies!"
"Alright, it's time we leave," Mikoto sighed exasperatedly, her children complaining.
"But mom, we proved ourselves! We can fight! We need to find Corrin!" Takumi spat, who has yet grow out of his lisp.
"I can't stand to see you all hurt... It really is dangerous here... That was just one soldier, and he was that big of a problem. We need to leave now," Mikoto said with her eyes closed. "We can only hope Corrin escaped without us."
One more cutscene will play, which will force Miyasaki to walk over to the spot the enemy archer died on. The sparkles that were dropped will disappear, with Miyasaki ending her turn and explaining how Door Keys work.
Now the player can control Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, Sakura, and Mikoto at once. By viewing her stats, you can see she's a priestess wielding the Fujin Yumi... With rubble blocking the opposite path, the only way the player can go now is towards the exit. The game will also explain how Auto-Battle works, encouraging the player to do so since there's no enemies in sight.
After moving all 5 allies, a cutscene will play as the enemy phase is entered. A Nohrian ninja will jump from the ceiling and kill Miyasaki.
Her death was instant and unanticipated. Miyasaki didn't even get to say another word. The little children screamed horribly at the sight of her twisted neck and lifeless eyes.
In a rage, Mikoto will defy the player phase to initiate combat against the ninja. With the Fujin Yumi, she will activate a critical and use a one-time phrase and face: one of pure rage.
"...We've been here too long. It's time we leave," Mikoto sobbed, taking a brief moment to kneel by her close friend's corpse. "Your innocent minds should not be seeing the face of war this early..."
The queen unlocked the door with the designated key, opening it to let her kids out first. They ran wordlessly into the dark of the night.
"Where am I?" Sumeragi thought exhaustedly, having ran too much. "No matter which way I face, it's just building after building after building. I'm probably in the heart of Cheve for all I know."
"Ah, Sumeragi. It was hard moving around like this, but it seems this goose chase is over." Sumeragi recognized this voice- it was no other than Garon, the king of Nohr. "Now, I have a question for you. Whose life are you willing to save?"
That's about a wrap for the prologue. I wanted to go mighty into this, and mighty I am going. I decided to scrap the entire prologue because I decided that it was completely unnecessary and character-heavy. I went for a route that allowed players to view a glimpse of what the plot has to offer without actually showing what the four main Hoshidan royals and other characters are like, to give a bit of a surprise factor for upcoming chapters. With this chapter, you won't be able to know what's coming up next and ruin the 6th chapter. It's somewhat plot-heavy but at the same time not really. It gives the same thoughts that the original prologue might, but only implies it instead of out-right saying "umg guys look corrin has family issues."
Hopefully I understood how the Divine Weapons work based on wikis I looked up. It's said that they choose who the wielders are but can also be passed down from one generation to the next.
Miyasaki is, of course, a fan made character and I made it obvious that she was the mother of Yukimura. He did say that he once worked for Sumeragi, but I can't imagine him to have been that old at the time considering Hinoka, Takumi, and Sakura were so young that they thought Mikoto was their biological mother. Maybe Yukimura was around teenage years, but still. So I gave him a soccer mom that forced him into his current role today! Apparently he's now an orphan oops.
