Survival: The Ultimate Dream Job (Canon)

His body was burning as he hit it into fourth gear; running from the oncoming monster that was chasing him. He hated that he decided to go out and be the bait, but he nonetheless wanted to be part of the adventure. Now, this was simply the price he had to pay for wanting to be involved in something he was advised to stay out of.

Ian felt his body aching, but he knew he couldn't stop running. He needed to get to the Gyrosphere Valley, where ACU was waiting for him to neutralize the threat. The threat was a Ceratosaurus that had broken out of its paddock after an electrical malfunction while the electricians were checking the stability and voltage of the electric fences of the Ceratosaurus paddock. The dinosaur didn't rampage through the park but went to the old park and was being tracked down. Owen and James offered to go and get the dinosaurs, but Claire said that ACU needed their help in subduing the carnivore. So, Ian offered himself up to be the bait and the one to lure the carnivore to ACU. As much as his mother and his uncles didn't like the idea, they were confident that Ian could pull it off. And besides, they knew Ian had this weird fantasy of being a part of some kind of dinosaur adventure or survival and this was the closest thing he was going to get currently.

'I really need to rethink my life choices,' thought Ian as he saw the gate that led into the Valley and out of the Restricted Area, 'Why did I want to do this again?'

Ian ran a bit faster as the Ceratosaurus gave a mighty roar; slightly shaking the earth with each pounding step. He could see that the Valley was cleared from all Gyrospheres and that the herbivores were moved out of the way so that the carnivorous dinosaur would avoid eating them. Seeing ACU a bit up ahead, Ian ran even faster and the Ceratosaurus roared once again; desperately trying to catch Ian since it was hungry.

"There they are!" yelled out one of the ACU soldiers.

Owen and James saw the boy and the dinosaur approaching and got into their positions.

"All right, everyone, please, don't shoot my nephew," said Owen, "Just zap the dinosaur a bit to stun it. If that doesn't work, then Roger, shoot the tranq dart and we'll be done here."

The men nodded their heads as they all got into position and waited for Mr. Jones to give the green light to fire.

Ian could see that the men were all in position and knew what to do once he got even closer. Once he was close enough, which was down the slope of a hill, Ian jumped to the side, rolling down the hill.

"Fire!" yelled out Jones.

The men fired some electric bullets at the dinosaur, shocking it a bit and making the dinosaur chirp out of fear and pain. However, the dinosaur lashed out and tried biting at some of the men. Once it failed a few attempts, Roger shot the tranq dart and hit the dinosaur in the neck. The carnivore shook its head a bit before losing its balance and collapsing to the ground. ACU approached the dinosaur and began to load the terrible lizard into the trailer. Owen and James walked over to Ian, who was catching his breath while still lying down on the grass.

"You okay?" Owen asked as he picked his nephew up off the ground.

"Never been better," said Ian as he regained his breath and stood up straight.

"So," began James, "still want to have a dinosaur survival adventure?"

"Hell yeah!"

Owen and James looked at each other and Owen sighed.

"I mean, let's just have all the dinosaurs break loose and leave him alone on the island," he said.

James chuckled. "Don't exaggerate."

"I mean, I enjoy the adventures we've had here," said Ian as he began to walk over to the Jeep that he, Owen and James came in.

Owen and James followed; getting in the car and driving towards the park.

"So why is it again that you want to be in some kind of dino survival situation?" Owen asked.

Ian shrugged his shoulders. "I don't really know. I mean, I think it's just…what would happen and how I would react to it and what situations I'd find myself in. Like, Zach and Gray said they were in the back of an ambulance while Echo and Delta were chasing them. Claire took care of Echo and the boys took care of Delta. I think it'd be cool to just say I survived a dilemma like that and say how I got out of it alive."

"¿Y si te mueres?" James asked.

"Then I die. But, it's more the rush and pride I'd feel from surviving said situation. I mean, I was just chased down by a Ceratosaurus; I can totally tell people that I was chased down by one and survived."

Owen looked into the mirror to look at Ian and said, "Yeah, hey, you were gone for longer than expected. What happened out there?"

"Oh, well, it was supposed to be a straight shot from the Restricted Area to the Valley, but the damn dinosaur made a detour and then chased me through some old paddocks from the first park."

"Why didn't you tell us?"

"Isn't it obvious?"

Owen facepalmed as James laughed.

"Hay Miguel, eres tan especial."

"Tell me something I don't know Tio."

"So, how was it?" Claire asked Ian as he and the other two arrived at Control.

"Well, I got chased down by a dinosaur and survived. I can officially say that I can now die happy," replied Ian.

Claire rolled her eyes with a smile.

"Oh Ian, where did we go wrong?" Sarah asked.

"Wha-Mom!"

Owen laughed and said, "You let him watch one to many movies, Sarah."

Ian rolled his eyes. "You guys are losers."

"I think we need to think about how Claire let a nineteen-year-old boy play as bait for a monster that could have killed him," said Lowery.

"Hey, don't steal what I told you Lowery," said Sarah.

Lowery rose his hands as everyone else turned to look at Claire.

"What? He works here!" she exclaimed.

"Can I get a raise for my heroism?" Ian asked jokingly.

Claire shot Ian a glare. "I can fire you, if that sounds better."

Ian rose his hands in defense and stepped back, making Lowery and Vivian laugh.

"In any case," said Owen as he threw his arm over Claire's shoulder, "Ian's alive and can scratch something off his bucket list."

"I sure can."

"All I know is," said Claire, "I can't send Ian out again because it can lead to some issues."

"Uh, Claire?" called out Lowery.

"What?"

"…A Juvenile Allosaurus broke out and is headed towards the river of the Cretaceous Cruise."

Everyone looked over at Claire, who sighed and looked at Ian; smiling widely as he knew what was going to happen now.

"I think I just found my dream job."
