It's me. I think in going to try writing this story and my previous one, as it was requested to continue. This story is essentially a reboot of YarningChick's Two Lives. I read it and liked the idea if the story, but noticed it was hard to read and I just wanted to change some things up with it. Wish me luck…

The sun shone brightly as Haru walked down the city sidewalk towards the local animal shelter. After the events of the Cat Kingdom a few months ago, she started to become obsessed with helping people. She originally volunteered at the hospital, but moved on to the animal shelter because of her new found love for cats. One cat in particular.
'No, stop that,' she ordered herself, 'it's not love. He just saved me and I'm thankful for that.
Apparently she had blushed, and her best friend Hiromi, who was walking beside her, noticed.
"Who's the lucky guy?"
Haru's blush intensified as she denied having a crush on someone.
"Oh come on Haru. I know there's a guy. One week you crushes over Machida, and the next you decline his date offer. That doesn't just happen for no reason."
"Yes it can!"
"But that doesn't explain your dreamy expression when you sketch in your notebook, but slam it shut when someone tries to look at it. Just tell me who it is and why you haven't made your move yet."
"I-I can't ask him out. It's too complicated…"
"But you've been much more confident recently. I just don't understand why you won't tell me!"
Luckily for Haru, they arrived at the shelter just in time.
"I have to go now. Have fun at your lacrosse game! Ok bye now!" she said as she ran through the doors to the shelter. Hiromi wasn't fooled, however, and decided to press harder later.
'Baron, why am I still thinking of you? It's been over 3 months already! Three months, nine days to be exact.' Haru scowled at herself for keeping an exact count of the days that had passed. She tried to move on from the incident but she just somehow couldn't. While working at the hospital, she nearly went back to the Bureau for a visit, but decided not to bother them and work at the animal shelter instead to get her daily dose of feline friendship.
"Falling for a cat. A fake cat at that. Haru you are better than this! Come on and just drop it already please," she muttered to herself.
Meanwhile, across the city there was a certain lonely cat figurine that was thinking of her.

The tawny cat in mention was sitting in a chair, reviewing his most recent case. The Yoshioka case. He had been receiving less and less cases over the years, and Haru's was the most recent major one. The only other one since then was advice on how to talk to a girl. Baron gave the best advice he could, and wished he could use it on Haru. But, he couldn't. She was human, and he was a cat. A wooden, magical, half-cat. The words she said to him on the day he rescued her replayed in his mind.
"Baron, just for the record, I think I may have a little crush on you."
He scolded himself for giving that cheesy response. From all of his clients, this was the only time someone actually admitted feelings for him. Sure, a few ladies complimented him on his looks, but they didn't confess a liking towards him. He even had a slight attraction towards her as soon as she walked into his house. The way she was shy but sweet when talking to him really got his attention. Dancing with her and watching her grow as a person throughout her adventure was a major influence on his feelings for the young lady, but what sealed the deal was when he carried her up the stairs. She just felt so perfect against his body he got a certain, nice feeling when he picked her up.
"Also for the record, I admire a young woman that speaks from the heart."
He chose those words because he knew that her feelings for him would fade, and he figured his would too. He also knew that even if they didn't, a romantic relationship between them would be impossible, and even a friendship would be tough. Not just because of the difference in species, but Baron knew that watching Haru grow old while he stayed young forever would be heartbreaking for the both of them. Even if, somehow they both loved each other and somehow, Baron manages to use his magic to turn himself human or Haru into a half-cat creation like himself, he couldn't. He was promised to another.
When he was created, he was created alongside a soulmate. Her name was Louise and they were created to be engaged. Their creator thought that would be more romantic. The creator shortly died afterwards, and the house was looted. He was split apart from Louise, and he never saw her again. When he finally escaped his captors and founded the refuge, he planned to set out and find his lost love, but something told him to wait, and that she would come to him. He felt her death in his soul relatively recently, but something told him to still wait.
"I just wish that would come back, Louise." He muttered to himself. "I can't deal with knowing that you are dead, but you want me to wait for you. I don't get it!"
"Are you okay Baron?" Toto asked. He had just arrived back to the Bureau from checking on Haru. Baron had sent him and occasionally Muta to check on Haru to make sure she was safe. Today was no different.
"What? Oh! Yes, yes I'm fine." Baron replied with a sigh. "How's Haru?"
"Just the same as last time you sent me to check up on her. Which was yesterday, Baron. You've never had me check up on a client for as long or as often. What's wrong?"
Baron managed to dodge the question by asking another question. "Did you not learn anything new when you flew by?"
"Well, a boy has been pursuing her,"
Baron tensed at hearing this.
"but she declined him, several times. I think she is in love with someone else."
Baron's ears perked up and he leaned forward just a bit. "Did she mention why?
"Why do you care?"
"I'm just curious."
Toto knew Baron was lying, but he continued on, "I believe she has a secret crush on someone else. According to observations made by her friend, she is daydreaming constantly and sketches them, but quickly slams it shut whenever someone passes."
Baron could barely hide a smile. Maybe, just maybe, she still retained feelings for him.
"That's besides the point, Baron. You've never had me check on a client this long after. I've also heard you talking to yourself more and daydreaming more. Tell me what's going on with you."
"Oh! I have?" Baron was genuinely surprised that his emotions were strong enough that they were noticeable. The team knew that if they could tell something fazed Baron, it was very serious.
"Yes Baron! Don't evade the question, either. What is wrong with you."
"I think I have developed feelings for Haru."

Two middle aged men gathered in a back alley. Both were wearing dark leather coats, as to avoid suspicion. One pulled out an ancient looking text book and turned to a marked page.
"Is this going to work, or will it be like last time?"
"I'm positive this will work, now shut up and chant!"
The man did as ordered by his boss, and began chanting with him from the page.

It's been awhile. I felt as if I had read all the fanfics I was interested in this community, but I've expanded my horizons and just finished reading a new one. This chapter was forgotten for a couple months, so maybe it doesn't flow that great… Anyway I hope this story turns out great!
