Tsunayoshi
Wartime
The winds of change are
swift and fickle
bringing maggoty corpses that
writhe and wriggle
as spoils of a war which
no-one wanted
from where ghosts spring forth all
wane and haunted.
Prompt Idea:
Tsunayoshi Sawada has been Vongola Decimo for barely two years [so he's 16], before he experiences his first Famiglia War, and has to feel the anguish of pressing the infamous red button.
"War has been declared," he intones into the microphone, eyes stony. Fingers clench, digging into his palms. His throat is dry, but he forges onwards. "Lethal force is permitted; put down the rebellion with any means necessary." That 'any means necessary' comes at the cost of 100 of his allies' lives, and 1000 of his enemies' lives, according to the report his holds in his hands a week later. Tsunayoshi stares at those same hands and flexes his fingers, wondering how many of those lives he had taken himself directly, indirectly, and how many could have been prevented. Then he drops his hands, holds his head high, and heads out the door to carry on with business as usual, reminding himself that he's doing this for the sake of his friends and family and Famiglia. /But does that justify it all?/ a niggling voice in the back of his head whispers. /Does it?/
So yes, an overdone angsty somewhat-cliche reaction to the whole 'darkness of the Mafia' thing.
Do you think I should write it as an one-shot? Or would someone else like to take up the prompt?
