Author's Note: This is just a short essay thing I had to write in English class. We had to write a valediction letter to someone, and I decided to write to Frodo from Sam's point of view. It's set when Frodo departs to the Grey Havens. So please forgive all cheesiness, and we had to use some sort of a comparison, or metaphor. So blame my English teacher, not me for this piece of work. I guess it sort of shows a more… serious side of me? Hm. Well here we go, enjoy and review. Please?
Sam's Valediction to Frodo:
As you depart for your journey tomorrow, I mourn your leaving. I realize this may be the last time we see eachother. But somehow I have a feeling we will reunite. Maybe not in this life, but in another. Our friendship is like a rubber band. The circle represents eternity, meaning we will always be friends. And no matter how much it stretches, we will always be near one another. And if you should return, I will feel more at ease. Then our rubber band of friendship will return to its normal stature.
But now as I watch you depart towards the sea, I stand in sorrow. I watch you board the ship, and can't help but think it may be the last time I ever see you. The clouds are dark and gray, hinting rain in the future. The ship sails away as a single tear streams down my face. The ship sails into the horizon towards the sunset. I still stand on the shore until I can see the ship no more. But still I know we will reunite later, in another life.
