A/N: Okay, so I just realized that Fanfiction has a Bartimaeus Trilogy category. So, me being the fan that I am, I had to post something. It's weird, but whatever.
Summary: Kitty watches the ruin of the Glass Palace, and she looks back on the promises made to her by Nathaniel and Bartimaeus.
Quotes (") is someone talking. Apostrophes (') is Kitty's thoughts, or something she's remembering being said to her by someone else. Just so nothing will get too confusing.
Your Promises
Kitty stumbled away from the glass palace on weak legs, trembling from exhaustion. And when she couldn't go any farther, she sank to her knees and turned to watch what would happen.
'We'll be all right.'
Kitty knew it when the staff broke. The white light engulfed the Palace, and it erupted in flames. She watched the entrance, waiting for Nathaniel and Bartimaeus to reappear. Nothing happened.
'We'll catch you up.'
The flames raged all around, and the iron began to melt. Nouda roared with pain as the iron fell around him. There was no sign of anyone escaping from the palace. No matter how she strained her eyes, she could see nothing but the iron and the fire.
'See you later, Kitty.'
Glass rained out of the sky now, falling upon the ground and upon Kitty herself. She sat there, and she watched as the iron fell into the flames, and she watched as the flames died away. And she watched as no-one exited the ruins.
'We'll be all right.'
The mess of iron cooled, and it began to harden. And still there was noone appearing from what was left of it. She stayed there watching, and she waited, but Nathaniel and Bartimaeus didn't return.
'We'll catch you up.'
'See you later, Kitty.'
'See you. You too, Bartimaeus.'
'Goodbye.'
"So much for your promises," Kitty said. She pulled herself to her feet; a tear rolled down her cheek as she turned and began to trudge away. Noone followed.
'So much for your promises.
She exited the park and trudged on down the street, her mind still on what had just occurred. She made her way back to Whitehall, but from there she didn't know where to go. She stood there, and she looked around at the destruction, and another tear made its way down her cheek.
'So much for your promises.'
'Goodbye.'
