Her breath came in ragged pants, chest rising and falling in time with her feet pounding on the soil. She could hear numerous footfalls behind her – they were catching up, she couldn't keep going for much longer. A small cry came from her as she vaulted over a crooked branch, barely noticing the others tearing at her arms leaving ugly red welts which began to bleed profusely. Landing with a small 'thump', she threw herself into a dark bush and crawled as far back as she could, before stopping as one set of footsteps came up to the branch. A low growl came from her pursuer, who ripped the branch from the tree and threw it somewhere into the dark undergrowth.
"Alicia ~" A deep, husky voice said as its owner stepped into the small clearing. A chuckle arose from them as the girl, Alicia, pushed herself further into the bush as another set of footsteps joined the other in the clearing.
"Rowan, it's getting dark! We need Eleanor for light!" the newcomer said, his voice straining as he caught his breath.
"A storm's coming! I want to get her back to the cave before the weather gets worse!" the original male said sharply all but ignoring the other as he moved further into the clearing, Alicia by this point had emerged on the other side of the bushes – away from the two males, ignoring her leg muscles which were beginning to cramp up from running for so long with no rest, she darted up and sprinted in the opposite direction.
"Damn this island! And damn that stupid ship for sinking!" she hissed to herself, another cry coming from her as her foot caught in a concealed vine, sending her flying into the air limbs flailing, before she landed in a heap a few metres away from the vine which had tripped her up, adding a deep gash on her stomach to previous injuries. Rolling onto her back, she gazed at the sky which was turning a rather beautiful shade of red, purple and orange, but the colours were swirling together, forming a rather ominous cloud which began to spread slowly but surely across the sky. A flash of lightening, a rumble of thunder and then, came the rain. Still laid on the floor Alicia began to cry, emotions hitting her in unwanted waves. Grief, anger, sadness all of them hitting her at once – rendering her unable to move as she laid crying her eyes out on the ground.
