A/N: Written for the Merlin forums random prompts challenge. Pairing is Arthur/Igraine in a non-romantic way, obviously. Prompt was broom and rather hard to incorporate into this story.
WARNING: Be prepared for some serious randomness.
Arthur was having a dream. He knew it was a dream because his mother was in it. Disbelieving, he reached out to touch her but he couldn't and he started to panic. But then remembering it was a dream; he calmed down and was quite happy just to watch her.
She was beautiful. It made Arthur think that Uther hadn't deserved her. Made Arthur think what she had seen in his father. She looked so at peace with herself, sitting comfortably in the grass, back against a rather large tree, just outside the castle. Arthur was once again reminded of how much he looked like his mother. He had the same piercing blue eyes, it made him glad he hadn't inherited his father's almost black ones.
He moved around her to see what was she was holding in front of her and saw a rather old looking book. Managing to read the first line of the page she was currently reading, he saw the words; "I but know that I love thee, whatever thou art,"
Arthur thought the words were quite strange but he thought of it no more, only wanting to focus on the mother he'd never known. Igraine's head snapped up out of her book and she squinted past Arthur at something. Arthur turned around in time to see a maid making her way over to his mother.
"Nimueh!" Igraine called out, a smile appearing on her face.
Arthur became alarmed; Nimueh was the witch his father had been so apprehensive about.
"My lady, it's time," the maid said, "Prince Uther of Camelot has arrived,"
Igraine seemed to roll her eyes and said almost sarcastically, "Let the courting begin,"
Nimueh let out a small laugh and the two set off. Arthur, who was rather intrigued, followed the two watching as they trudged up to the castle. Eventually the walking stopped and Arthur, who hadn't been paying much attention to his surroundings, realised he was in a kitchen.
"Nimueh, pass me that broom,"
Nimueh agreed, a bit confused.
"My lady what-" she stopped as Igraine glared at her, "Igraine, then, what are you doing?"
Igraine placed the broom against the wall and glared at it.
"I'm going to pretend this is Uther,"
And Arthur watched quite amused as she began to dance around the room with the broom and then stop abruptly to stop her feet on the bristles, obviously pretending that it was Uther's feet.
"Igraine! Do you know what your father would say if he found out this was your intention for Uther!" Nimueh managed to say through her giggles.
"I don't care if he knows! From all the letters this Uther has sent me he sounds like a mighty prat!"
The two laughed before linking arms and running further along the castle shrieking about getting dressed into Uther-approved attire.
Arthur woke up quite suddenly. He knew it wasn't in the middle of a dream anymore because his mother wasn't there. He felt slightly depressed for a while, but soon after he couldn't help but laugh hysterically as he saw a broom lying against the wall in one of the hallways of the castle.
I told you it would be random. Hope it was enjoyable. Rather hard to write, but fun anyway! :D
